I have been going to every rutgers seton hall game since 1969.

So.ething has changed. To begin with you have a very good coach. He is going to win in the big 10 and so will rutgers.

Second ..he begins with defense and rebounding which are the building blocks of every good program

Rutgers did not look like rutgers at all. Well organized professional run. Players played smart. There was a game plan to stop carrington and it pretty much worked.

Coaches get the most out of the players they have. Give this coach a couple of years to recruit and you be unable to ignore the results.

I give him three years and some of your conference members are going to have an oh shot moment when they get wacked by you guys.

I think we have an edge that runs thru experience for next season against you..after that we have to reset with a brand new group when our core four graduate

At that point all bets are off and we reset ...go beat the cheeses heads...and good luck the rest of the way..

Looking up RU

He still needs to prove that he can bring in some serious blue chips like Hall did with Carrington and Delgado.

But everything he's done to this point has been quite impressive on the recruiting front. He brought in a ton of frontcourt talent (which we were missing), essentially last minute. And it worked. He's got Geo to shoot the ball and Mama in the front court in the future.

He's hoping for a Naz, even if it's a long shot.

GymRat-

From your mouth to God's ears! Thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to a renewed "real" rivalry with the Hall, now that both teams have real coaching staffs. Happy New Year.

Carrington was not exactly a blue chip recruit. Top 150 and a few nice offers, but not a 4 star or anything. Delgado was on the fringe of the top 50. Of course, it is all about finding players who can play, which carrington obviously can.

GymRat ... Spot on. Rutgers absolutely needs to start seeing sustained success in one of the major sports, soon, or we could spend multiple decades as the next "Northwestern" (Big Ten doormat for many years). Stability in the coaching staff and recruiting and retaining talented players would be a good start.

I think the difference between this coach and any other coach I've watched and it hasn't been since 69" but since 89" is that I think this coach will win Road Games. That means that it's not just the RAC; but the RAC will once again become as intimidating as ever. A coach like Steve has a real offense and as the OP stated; preaches defense and rebounding which is what wins games.

We could have won the SHU game and although we fell short; it was a good game to play before the BIG 10 schedule. I believe if Rutgers wins 5 conference games; it's a successful season coming from where we were. Anything above that is a very successful season. We probably need at least 17 wins for a NIT bid.

17 wins will not get an NIT bid.....look at the last few years and the teams that made it and their SOS. Big Ten is not in the top four conferences this year. Much more parity.
