when you smell smoke, there is a fire and common sense tells you to seek out the cause and extinguish it and save the structure from burning into the ground. Well there has been smoke and I guess common sense is not the strong suit of our leadership. Tired of hearing we can't make a change because we are handcuffed by a donor, cut me a break, put out the fire!!!

I don't believe that for a second. That donor is irrelevant. I think Julie knows what needs to be done and isn't going to let some donor bully tell her what to do.

It is definitely true that Towers is the only reason that Flood is here. A Wisconsin alum who commits recruiting violations and speaks to the media and claims to do so on behalf of everyone.

However I think it is also clear that unlike the minority 5% who wash off academic fraud and think beating Indiana is all a coach needs to stay, most donors are against Flood remaining to run the program into the ground, just like most fans are against it.

We just need these donors to rally around one candidate to replace Flood.

The rumor is that there is a group of donors who feel strongly in favor of a Schiano return.

Brown could do it by himself.

Typical. After a bad loss, attack everyone and everything. How do you know anyone other than maybe Brown has that kind of influence?

If there was a Towers Stadium, Athletic Center, or Library maybe you could buy the premise. Otherwise it's just noise.

Did anyone hear the announcement about groundbreaking at the Baseball/Softball facility? It took 125 different donors to fund a $3 million project. Rutgers doesn't have the big $ people to influence major decisions.

You did the read the article where he claimed to speak for all the donors, right?

Towers has wielded an absurd amount of influence.

There is no Towers Stadium, because Towers is not a Rutgers booster. He is a Kyle Flood booster. His interest in RU is limited to KF being here.

Which should tell our fans everything about the situation we are in.

I believe it is much, much more complicated than that.

The issue is Barchi and the higher ups will not spend money on the athletic department until we are in the black. He has been quoted as saying this himself and a little over a year ago JH stood in front of the Court Club and told dozens of people this very thing. This ties the hands of the athletic department big time. It has also been said many times by prominent posters here and in articles in NJ.com that the donors do not want to pull the trigger unless JH already has a guaranteed successor that they all approve upon. It was a lack of a commitment that kept Flood here a couple of years ago. I have heard numbers thrown about on this site about how much money we have to get a new coach but most don't realize that simply dumping $3.5M or whatever to a coaching staff won't bring anyone of note, the bigger names will want promises from the AD that they will get the support to change the program around in terms of facilities, recruiting budgets, etc. and that is a promise that JH cannot make, at least for the next 3-5 years.

This is how I understand the situation to be based on stories on this site, NJ.com, etc. If it is not true please bring facts to the table to contradict what I am saying. I have heard alot of people say things but it was their opinion but noone has brought to the table any facts. Until then I will continue my opinion that Flood needs to stay here until the real B1G money comes a few years from now.

I can tell people I speak for this board. Doesn't mean I do.

I look at Towers as a rich egotist which seems to often be the case. I've never taken him any more seriously than I do you or other board members. The only difference is he has the stage.

I know he talks a big game but no one has ever shown how much influence he really has. I think it's more an assumption because he supports Flood and visa versa.

I remember not too long ago when people were kissing his butt here, now after the beatdown he's the enemy.

Let's all hope when it becomes time to make a decision that Hermann does whatever is right, ignoring any perceived influences either way.

If this is true, I have to question her judgement in accepting the job of AD without asking questions and getting a firm commitment for more investment in athletics. She comes from a school that places a much higher emphasis and investment in college athletics. Why would she come to RU knowing her hands would be tied for about 10 years? No one has that much job security to start with.

bring back SCHIANO....hes far from perfect but at least he can stand in the same room as meyer, harbaugh, dantonio and command respect. This program needs that.
This is true. It makes sense. Therefore it won't happen.

I don't know what you think is going to happen with Schiano. You think Schiano is going to recruit a better team than Meyer and out coach him?

Schiano won in the same league as Edsall. Neither belongs in the Big Ten.

Flood is fine, you guys still may make a bowl, that is just stupid to be angry you got pummeled by #1 Ohio State with JT starting.

Maryland looked a lot better than Rutgers, but seriously JT didn't start or play much.

That is a very good question. Either it is what you said that you have to question her judgement or it could be also that she was sold a bill of goods.

I want to follow up by saying I truly want someone to come to the table and present me facts that will change my opinion on what needs to be done. Alot of people here post on emotion (including myself at times) and right now I want to weed out what is true and what is not when it comes to the state of our program.

Schiano recruited the best teams RU has ever seen. He just happened to leave before he could coach them. He can get us back to recruiting at that level. Let him do it for the next 7 years, and give him some time with the incremental B1G money. After 7 years we'll be functioning with a profit, with expected moderate to good success. At that point year 8 we can have higher expectations. This is a realistic plan for growth and success....Flood can only hurt us and set us back.

No, this program needs to win games on the field more often than it loses vs. those top schools. I'm not saying we are going to be the class of the B1G East with Meyer and Harbaugh in their current positions, but screw this commanding respect in the room with them. Win some friggin games on the field and respect will come. At least start beating PSU while they still have a numbnuts as their head coach. Not sure Schiano is the guy for that at this point in the program. I actually like Tom Herman or Justin Fuentes so much more.

you'll win games with better players and recruiting...schiano get you that. He wont get 9 out of the top 10 in NJ but hell get you more than 1 in 3 years that flood did. Flood is a nobody, Schiano has cache. You have to realize this.

And remember, he was doing it while a member of the Big East. Imagine what Schiano could sell as a Big Ten team.

I realize this. I also realize that Schiano, while having equal to or more talent than schools like Cincinnati, WVU, Louisville and Uconn, was grossly out coached at times by the likes of Dantonio, Kelly, Rich Rod and Edsall. Again, I love the man for building the program and putting RU on the map and I recognize if not for him we wouldn't be in the B1G, but people's hard on for this guy as a head coach simply amazes me. He's mediocre at best. He'd load up on talent like Hoke and Butch Jones and lose on the field to OSU, UM and MSU. No doubt in my mind. Also, Schiano never recruited depth. he'd spend all his energy trying to hit the home run and if he swung and missed on the big fish we'd be screwed. That style of recruiting won't cut it in the big ten. Flood actually recruits depth better...he just can't coach it.

Oh and the fact that you are a Terp and telling us to keep flood is enough to push any smart fan in the other direction...

he never had more talent than WVU...please. Ask yourself in 7 years who we'll be recruiting if Flood sets us back to 2-10 again.

Plus he could show them all those Big East Championship trophies he won.....

OOPS!

again you focus on that but forget the talent he left flood... I think we would have gone BCS that year with Schiano. Either way, i'll take a known commodity and 8-4 every year with hope for more, than flood's direction of 4-8. We'll be lucky to sniff bowl games over the next 4 years based on his recruiting.

Oh I want Flood gone. And fine, take WVU out of the equation. We recruited on the same level as Cincinnati and GS was almost completely owned by THREE different coaches (Dantonio/Kelly/Jones). He beat them in '05 and '11, and in between were 5 years of beat downs and disappointing losses. I prefer an offensive head coach in the college ranks who will run a system that we can recruit to locally and be successful with. NJ has skill players out the ying yang and very few legit D1-A pro-style QB's.

We need to go in a completely different direction. GS is not the answer.

That direction has a bit more risk, could pay off or it could come back and hurt us. I'd prefer schiano because we know exactly what we're getting. Let him stabilize us, and improve recruiting. If we can compete in the big for a few years, get the full share of $$$, increase fanbase and donors, we'll be in a better place to make a big hire down the road. I think its the safer, slower but more stable route to go. We'll have solid $$$ stream to build against and make serious improvements. The RU job will be appealing to someone else down the road if we are a profitable and moderately successful team...

I hear what you are saying as far as GS being the safe play...and he probably is, but remember this...we won all those games with GS when the Big East for all intents and purposes morphed into a mid-major conference. True we were showing signs of improvement in 2003 when Miami and VT were still there and before Syracuse completely bottomed out but even so it was a weaker conference than the division we are currently in. So not 100% certain Greg would lead us to 8-4 every year UNLESS he brought in a dynamic offensive coordinator/associate head coach with excellent in-game management skills and gave the guy complete control to run it.

I would take GS or Herman or Fuente.

For now we need to be concentrated on removing the current HC.

Julie and Barchi should have to wade through hundreds of voicemails and emails demanding that the university be accountable every morning to start the day.

A message needs to go out.

Please don't do that. Just cheer for your team and let the chips lie where they lie. If he sucks as a coach the record that the end of the season will reflect that. If you try to force the issue you hurt the program.

Barchi can't play a video on his lap top. Check emails and voicemails about the football team and a new coach? Lol...

How many emails and voicemails has Not left? I want numbers.

No- due to the soft prejudice of low expectations, the continued blow outs are likely not enough for JH and Barchi when they know that Towers and the 5% are not results oriented.

If you have no faith in JH and Barchi to let Flood go, they why do you have so much faith in them doing the right thing when hiring the next coach?

Because the way RU works outside of the TP error included several strong hires like GS and CVS. We have done it before. We can do it again.

I think Julie knows how to hire, what I think she may not know is how bad things are.

That isn't several. That is two. And the man who hired them, Not and some of the other drama queens wanted run out of town because of a Star Ledger article.

The twilight zone is coming full circle.

Rutgers isn't even close to the way it works the 15 years ago that GS and CVS was hired. This hire will be solely getting a coach on the cheap. Like how the men's basketball program has been operating the last 20 years.

I don't see him as the enemy. He's a donor in the athletic department who happens to be a little more vocal than you'd like but it takes all kinds. Sometimes you get donors who like to remain anonymous or behind the scenes and sometimes you get ones who have little more ego. You have to manage them all and their egos.

He's donated about 1M that we know of and that's great but that's not enough to have influence on who's the coach in any athletic department. Donate 10s of millions and then of course you're voice becomes more influential. Influence is a function of number of zeroes as you'd expect. I take him as he is, a donor to the athletic department and leave it at that. He's entitled to his opinion and if he wants to voice it a little more publicly so be it.
