Rutgers medical students graduating early to fight coronavirus pandemic

Rutgers University is expediting graduation for nearly 200 medical students so they can provide critical health care during the coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic.

The 192 final-year students of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School were originally expected to complete their required courses in April and graduate in May. Now, 154 will graduate on April 10 and another 38 will graduate on April 21, according to the university.

Rutgers University Among First in Country to Expedite Graduation of Medical Students


Students from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School will be eligible to begin residencies in coming weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 192 final-year students attending Rutgers University will graduate early to provide critical health care to combat COVID-19.

“I have total confidence that our students are ready to help the cause,” said NJMS Dean Robert Johnson. “They have learned and trained at Rutgers and will be much-needed support in our nation’s health care system.”
