Basketball Rutgers Men’s Basketball Announces 2023-24 Schedule

Once again appears B1G is mocking us and making it as difficult for RU as possible.

First schedule is a bit odd with Illinois home December 2 then not another league game until a month later.

Play every Saturday in December and then only one Saturday in January. In fact only three Saturday games in January, February and March.

Tom Izzo is giggling as yet another year goes by and he doesn’t have to play RU at the RAC.

While Carino properly notes the B1G did RU no favors by scheduling first 4 of 6 away in January, including what a surprise, MSU, another story is….

Once again we end the year with more road than home games as the B1G also scheduled 4 of our last 7 games away. Good way to build up momentum for the tourneys right?
Have we ever had three home games in a row?

Maryland better and tougher games than PSU but find it odd when it looks like PSU might be down we don’t get to play them twice. Should be a protected series just as much as Maryland.

Carino and his inside joke with Willard and his secret love for all things SHU is a little odd in an article about the RU hoop’s schedule. Really?

Guess that means when we get Dylan next year we are going to start the season with 4 of 6 at the RAC, Izzo and MSU at home, and we will finish with 4 of 7 at home and not UCLA at the Garden right?

I mean fair is fair right?

Mr. Conspiracy Theorist is back. Do you really think the league did extra work to try to make RU's schedule "harder?" Everyone has a tough schedule because it's a tough league.

The schedule is a rotation - you plays a team twice, then once (either home or road), then twice, then once (whichever of home or road you didn't have two years before). RU played Maryland once last year and PSU twice. So this year it's the reverse.

Who knows what will happen next year with 4 more teams but this is how the rotation has been for several years.

Stop your nonsense. Everyone has 10 home games and 10 road games. Sometimes there are stretches with 4 of 6 on the road. It happens to everyone and all evens out at the end. RU has its first Big Ten game at home and last one at home. I think that's a good thing.

Great job Big Ten of burying RU-Purdue on arguably the biggest football day of the year: Conference Championship Sunday.

This has arguably been the marquee Big Ten matchup the last two years. No thought to put it at a more favorable date?

I think you're wrong. Ever think that there's a good chance it's a CBS game leading into the AFC Championship game? It's the only Big Ten game of the day. Would be tremendous exposure if it's our first CBS game since the 1991 NCAA tournament.

I don’t see 2 games against Penn State , just a home game against them on Jan 31st.

Wow !! If this ever happens, this comment will live in board infamy

Purdue-RU on CBS seems likely to happen the more I look at it. I think someone has finally noticed how great the regular season games between the school have been the past couple years. There are about five Big Ten games the day before on Saturday the 27th with Purdue-RU the only Big Ten game on Sunday the 28th.

The last time the AFC championship game was the earlier of the two games - Jan. 30, 2022 - CBS televised Ohio State and Purdue as the lead in to its football coverage.

Would be pretty pointless and odd to carve out one game for championship Sunday just to drop it on BTN.

Too bad nantz isn’t doing hoops anymore . He could have done double duty! The game at the RAC and then up to MetLife if jets are hosting the afc championship game !

I hope you are right. A National CBS Broadcast on a Sunday afternoon at Jersey Mike’s Arena would be major accomplishment for the program.

Wasn't even considering the broadcast of Purdue-Rutgers.
An eventual Rutgers win will be buried by Super Bowl reporting.

At best the game will be at noon on that Sunday.

Hard to believe it's scheduled for 1pm on Sunday and CBS does no AFC Championship pre game show.

Noon is what I’m thinking. That’s when OSU-Purdue tipped in 2022.

Until they all come true?
It’s not like OSU didn’t cost us an NCAA bid last year? Oh wait it did.
MSU and Izzo don’t go to the RAC for two years? Hmmmmm. Nothing to see here.
Is RU making up that MSG game this year? Nope… Maybe in the future! Keep waiting. Hasn’t formally been rescheduled has it? Nothing to see here.
Since you are so brilliant why not protect RU v PSU rather than RU v Maryland? Who have we played more often over the decades? PSU down know and we don’t play them. Nothing to see here.
Name me the other school in the B1G that has given up as many home games to the Garden as RU? Nothing to see here
Let’s also at the last five games of the schedule every year since we have been admitted into the league. Let me know when we have ever had an advantage. How many years? I’ll await your response backed up by your stats.

Nonsense? Really? SMH

Here’s Aaron Breitman’s take from the Scarlet Faithful:

“On January 14, the Scarlet Knights take what has become an annual trip to East Lansing against league favorite Michigan State. The Spartans are the only Big Ten team to be excused from visiting Jersey Mike’s Arena when you combine last season and this coming one.”

Didn’t make up that game this year did they?

Local Shill would rather stick his head in the sand. Nothing to see here. SMH.

Six league teams play 2x in December: Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State, and Nebraska

The Illinois at Rutgers game is the same day as the conference football championship game. That will hurt the basketball attendance if we're in both games. :CHOP:Pounding Nails

The start of January is a bit of a disadvantage for us. Iowa plays at Wisconsin Jan 2; we play at Ohio State Jan 3; then we play at Iowa on Jan 6. So the Hawkeyes get one extra rest day. You have to figure we'll go right from Columbus to Iowa that time of year rather than back to NJ for a day or two, mitigating some of that edge.

Michigan State plays at Illinois the Thursday before we face them in East Lansing, so that's a minor edge for us. We have an extra two days to prepare for the Spartans.

Our guys need to have that Nebraska home game circled for payback this year.

The Purdue home game does seem to scream nationally televised. That's awesome if it plays out that way.

In league play, we play 2x on Tuesday; 3x on Wednesday; 4x on Thursday; 4x on Saturday; and 7x on Sunday. That's the most Sunday games in the conference, followed by Maryland and Michigan State with six each.

Does the Big Ten office have any Rutgers folks on the payroll? Does the Big Ten have any refs/officials for football and hoops with ties to Rutgers and/or NJ?

Shacks breakdown

1.) say this every year , but we REALLY need to take care of business In November and stsrt 6-0 out of confrenxe , because 23 of the 25 games after thar are against power 5 teams and only 10 are at the RAC

2.). Pike has traditionally had us playing pretty well coming out of January 1st (exception was the covid year )….and those first 6 league games in January is the tough stretch (or at least on paper ) …then a much needed week off . I’d sign up for 3 -3 in those 6 game right now ….and that’s going to be a talk task

3.) there isn’t a stretch that you can define and say “..maybe we can get on a run here

4.) 6 of the last 11 have home and bone with Wisconsin , michgan and marykand . Those are teams , like last year , we might be fighting for a NCAA bid with …

5.) I don’t know why the confrnce a does this …but I don’t like having teams we play once showing up early in the year , not to see them again. Always think the first third of the schedule should be mostly teams you play twice ….this year, we see Indiana , Iowa, and Michigan state in the first half of the January…and that’s it. I guess going to 18 teams and mostly playing wvwryine once will solve that …but I think the confrnce can do better on this part

6.) why do I already know that we will be heading to the RAC on March 10th needed thar win for our NCAA resume ????

7.) shack has learned the hard way, part 20595. Playing Nebraska on March 3rd out there ??? That one makes me more nervous than the road game against Wisconsin a couple of days later…..

My take
10-9/19-11….needing the win against Ohio state to wrap this thing up .

Looks like Rutgers has 10 home games and 10 away games. Looks fair to me

If we played MSU twice you‘d complain about an extra game against the preseason league favorite.. Put the tin foil hat away.

Honestly not a big fan of associating our sports teams with the Sopranos imho
It was one of the best shows ever on TV and its lead actor played one of the most iconic roles in the history of television and happened to be an RU alum and huge RU sports fan. I think most people are smart enough to be able to separate out the content of the show from the people who were actors playing roles on that show.

Or a year after giving away a home game to MSG and playing them away, in a one game series this year, we again play them away.
Yep seems fair. The Truth is Out There! Question Everything! ;-)
Pike didn’t like it. Is he a complainer?

None of us have to like it but you preposterously continue to insist it's part of some grand plan by the conference to hurt Rutgers.
