Rutgers ranked in AP Top 25 for 1st time in 41 years | Where did Scarlet Knights land in poll?

“The way we’ve been playing, I think we’ve earned it,” sophomore big Myles Johnson said Sunday when asked about the possibility. “All the hard work is starting to show in our position in the Big Ten. If we keep at it, we’ll have a great season. I think bringing that back to this school and bringing the program up is a huge spark for Jersey. I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Here's a closer look at the other big news in another fresh Top 25:

RUTGERS ON THE RISE

The Scarlet Knights bounced back from a loss to Illinois by beating Indiana and Minnesota at home, running their record at the RAC to 13-0 this season -- the best start in school history. That was enough to get Rutgers (14-4) into the poll at No. 24 for the first time since the final poll of the 1978-79 season. And with Seton Hall at No. 10, the state of New Jersey has two teams ranked for the first time since the Pirates were joined by Princeton in the last poll of the 1990-91 season.

College basketball rankings: Baylor becomes seventh No. 1 team as Rutgers returns after 41-year hiatus

To find the last team to beat Seton Hall, you’ll have to travel less than 30 miles down the Garden State Parkway. Rutgers beat the Pirates by 20 back in December, the beginning of a stretch of eight wins in nine games for the Scarlet Knights. As of Jan. 20, Steve Pikiell’s team is tied for second place in the Big Ten standings. More importantly, No. 24 Rutgers is ranked for the first time in 41 years. The Scarlet Knights were one of four teams to enter the rankings this week. These are the others:

With Seton Hall And Rutgers On The Rise, Latest AP Poll Is Jersey Strong

The latest Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll is out, and it features a pair of teams of The Garden State variety.

For the first time ever, both Seton Hall and Rutgers are ranked in the same AP poll. The Pirates jumped up eight spots from 18th to 10th, while the Scarlet Knights placed 24th, their first Top 25 nod in 41 years.

The historic day for New Jersey college basketball – the state tied for the second most schools in Monday’s poll – follows an impressive stretch of play by both programs.

I am soooo sooo happy today!! I have been attending games since I was 3 years old! I used to sit in section 115 Row B for most of the last 23 years of my life, from watching Billet, Kent, Greer to Herve, Ricky Shields, Douby, to Rosario, Greg, Chandler, to Mack and Jack, to now the group we have! The journey back to relevance has been long but it is so rewarding!
