Rutgers old growth forest

But you can see how much deterioration there has been in the forest in a time of no human activity.
I could be wrong but I think that a bunch of acres of forest in the midst of a metropolis would have a different growth pattern than the same bunch of acres of forest in the midst of a 1000 acre nature preserve than those same acres on an uninhabited island in the Pacific. Our effect on the environment shouldn't be underestimated.

You might be right, but notice the problem here is that invasive species displaced a lot of what was there. This is a problem even in isolated places. You are certainly right that there has been human impact; perhaps the point is that once humans have intervened, they have to figure out how to make things better rather than just abandon the place to natural processes.
