Over the past several years I've become pretty good friends with a guy in my area.

Wasn't till a month ago that I found out he lost his brother in the wtc.

Never forget!

Seeing a few of the infant-age children (0-2 years old) listed as left behind caught my eye this time around and reflecting on how many years have passed by in the interim. These are now 17-19 year olds, most likely seniors in HS and freshmen/sophomores in college. Have all had to grow up without at least one of their birth parents.

I did not find this out until 2007, but one of my 2 roommates(we had a real large corner dorm room in Demarest) from my freshman year in 1976, died on 9-11. His name was Robert Deraney from Wayne. He transferred to Princeton after his freshman year at Rutgers.

I found out by accident on a vacation in California. I was in a sports bar one day in 2007 and talking to a few people that were originally from NJ. One of them happened to have relatives that I knew from Cranford and they also happened to be a cousin of Bob's. I guess Bob was not listed as someone from NJ that died because he was living in NYC when it happened.

May he rest in peace.

Really sad and upsetting to see lists like this every year on this day. Get emotional every single time. The stories behind each and every one of them with their one unique circumstances, families, and contributions in their shortened lives.

RIP and bless their families

Most of the MBS trading crew. I was with Fannie Mae and BofA back than. Both RU and non RU people. Was at that office several times a year from the 90s to that day.
no $hit? then we probably cross traded as I was on the mbs desk after their training program on 105. I knew them all but the mbs desks were half the numbers from 98 to 2001 due to mkt and tech changes

Was offered a job at Cantor a few years prior to 2001 and declined. A woman from Rutgers I knew took the role. She was not in when it happened. The rest of the department I would have worked in all perished.

Didn't know you were in the same biz. Who did you work for back than? They were a giant in the MBS market for such a "small" firm.
On their tech side was Gavin Cushny who was part of a group working on a platform for A paper mortgage loans that couldnt pass through Fannie/Freddie automated approvals. Didn't know he was a Rutgers guy until many years later.

Heart drops every year on 9/11 and I also realize how lucky I am. I was on the PATH train going into the WTC when it all happened - remember it like it was yesterday. Can never imagine what it would have meant to my wife and kids - and what it actually meant to a lot of spouses and their kids.

I worked at Cantor for year in 1996 in operations. Lucky I moved on to a different company after that but was across the river in Jersey City and had front row seats for the whole thing.

A friend of mine lost his mother and another lost his brother in 9/11. The older traders on my trading floor traded with the Cantor Fitzgerald guys daily. The older guys in my firm got out with their lives that day due to being on a lower floor. RIP to all of the victims.
