Rutgers was originally scheduled to play against CCNY on November 15, 1944 in New York “for the amusement of the patients at Halloran General Hospital.” The football game was cancelled by military authorities according to the November 8, 1944 Daily Home News. Halloran was a United States Army hospital and later became the Willowbrook State School for children with mental retardation. Today it is part of the campus of the College of Staten Island. Instead, Rutgers scheduled the on campus ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program) and won by the Rutgers varsity 18-12.
