A very cool tradition. The West Point marathon team runs the game ball from West Point to Philly in advance of tomorrow’s game.

I was lucky enough to pass a cadet carrying the ball this morning on my way into work. Saw him and a police escort on route 179 between Lambertville & Ringoes. Really cool to see!

Great tradition that I am fortunate to see each year as the run past my neighborhood in Lambertville. The West Amwell school on Rt. 179 had all their students out cheering them on. Awesome!
Hey neighbor! I’m not right in town, but just up off 518.

Yes it is, 149 +/-.

My earliest football memory is going that game with my Dad, when he was AD at Valley Forge Military Acad. I was probably 3 or 4.

Manlius used to play the Plebes on Friday and the Corp of Cadets would be there cheering against us and then they would all load up onto the train and go to Philly. We beat them the two years I was at Manlius.

John's NAVY team never lost to Air Force or Army the 4 years he was on the team.

Looks like a cold game this year. I have only been to one where the sun was out and it wasn't freezing.

A bucket list for Top 5 games to attend at least once, for those who love college football.

1. Army/Navy.
2. ND/USC at ND.
3. Texas/Texas A & M. At A & M get to watch the best college band.
4. Florida/Georgis. World's largest outdoor cocktail party.
5, Harvard/Yale. without various protesters.

crap! I'm right at the top of Gulic Rd. (Hunterdon Fairgrounds) and would have loved to see that again. Saw them go past Flemington Shop Right a few years ago.

I am attending the Army Navy Football game tomorrow...My 1st one.
I cannot wait!

I suggest that you get there early enough to watch the march on's for both Academies. The times are probably on the game web site. Be advised that you will have to go thru security gates and the march on's are early and you can't leave and return. Buy a parking pass online now. Dress warm, electric vest, elec mittens and elec socks/soles, with a wool hat are good ways to enjoy and stay warm. (The electric hand warmers in the rest rooms will have MId's laying on the floor with their feet under the heaters.)

Hopefully it won't be windy and the para guys from both Services will jump. You don't have to be crazy to jump out of a perfectly functioning plane/chopper, but it helps.

Love it!

They run??? Isn’t philly like 150 miles from West Point?

Really not that bad of a run.

Army breaks it into 3 parts so only 50ish miles for each group.

Navy seems to break it into smaller 10 mile legs.

For college aged, military recruits this should be fairly easy.

https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a25456049/army-navy-game-ball-relay/

The tradition started in 1982 with Naval Academy’s “unlucky” 13th Company as a way to bring the group together. All 150 members of the group relayed the ball the first year, and the tradition has since continued. Now, their 130-mile journey is broken up into 13 legs and split up between all 150 members.

For Army, the tradition, which started in 1994, is slightly different. In this academy’s case, it is the school’s 16-person marathon team that relays the ball each year. They run through the night and through the morning in three shifts, ending at rough 2:15 p.m. when the entire team meets at the Museum of Art.

Yeah I did River 2 Sea (Lambertville to Manasquan) a few years ago and we were a bunch of 40-somethings so totally doable for college runners

It's actually going to be fairly mild for mid-Dec with temps in the low/mid-50s for highs (normal high is 45F); could be a few showers though, but not washout level showers, i.e., maybe 0.1" of rain from 1-7 pm. Wind shouldn't be a factor either. Enjoy the game.

Six AH-64 Apache helicopters have been practicing for tomorrow and have been flying about 150 feet above my store. They make 2 runs Saturday. One is at 9am to open up College Gameday. Than just before the game. They made over 10 loops over the store. Very cool.

One year the sun was out and our seats were in the sun. It was actually balmy, so that I was taking off layers. Bring all the stuff I recced and if it looks good leave in car.

When I didn't attend West Point or Princeton, my Dad didn't talk to me for 6 months.

Manlius was an Honor Military school and my appointment was from a Congressman from Calif.
My Great-Uncle was a BOT at P-ton and a named partner of a large multi-country law firm in NYC, (none of this was told me when I was picking schools or careers.)((go figure)).((It wasn't till my Sister went to law school in her 50's that Mom/Dad told her to go interview with Uncle Ewing's firm., she didn't.))

The problem with the March On is that you can no longer leave the stadium after the March On. Gates open at 11am March On begins at 12pm and is usually over within an hour. So you are stuck inside the Stadium for 2 hours before kickoff.

@BigWill As in Saul Ewing? Great story BTW.

I saw on 31/202, I did know what it was as I was going in the opposite direction.

I'm sure the kids that started the academic year with Beast Barracks, and whatever the swabbies call their version, can relate to that kind of suffering.

Good list. I would just add Minnesota/Wisconsin to that. Oldest rivalry in college football, 129 years and running.

Cool picture. These are Marine onboard an Amphib. One of our products is on that boat. That looks like an old picture though.

Grandson #1 Lance Corp on one of those allegedly somewhere in the Med.

John was on one for his summer cruise at USNA. He came back and told me, "I hate ships." He figured it out and flew a plane too big to land on anything even a Carrier. Over 10 years later he's never been on a ship since...

My wife and I just came back from a couple days in Annapolis and I have to say touring the campus 2 days before the game we didn’t see much hype. I thought there would be more beat Army signs. My brother graduated from West Point in 1979 and we were up there all the time visiting and to watch him run and I recall beat Navy signs everywhere and constantly
