While losing for the last decade has taken it's toll, the spirit of the RAC is being gutted by the sound system. If those in charge now watch a video of what the RAC was like in the late 90s thru mid 2000s, they'll see that you don't need music blaring at every second to have an energized crowd.
I absolutely the video board and the fact that we have a real sound system for the first time. Those are big wins by the university to bring us into the 21st century. Now that you have them, they need to be used right. An example is how they do the player introductions with the video.
The band needs to be allowed to play for more than 2 full timeouts... even then, they don't get the full timeout. I directed the band a few times and loved pushing the playing of a song to the last possible second (while ending it logically musically) in a timeout. Now they have to cut things short and eliminate the stuff that gets the crowd engaged. Hope about this to start: When you don't have special halftime entertainment, have the band play a longer song or two. When I was in the band, we enjoyed playing a variety of songs, especially the longer ones, which generally were more fun.
I don't mind advertisements and get it that they need to make money. But a macarena cam?? That is embarrassing. Same thing for the simba cam.
@jersey07080 - I like the idea... count me in on a contribution to "sponsor" a timeout to have the band and only the band to play.
If someone in the AD is listening, reach out to me. I'd be happy to buy you dinner to chat about it.
