The PSU transfers, the German and the Kiwi all sound like B1G-level talent. But that list is a painful reminder that RU is still only getting the second (or third) tier recruits from New Jersey. The coach has been here 6 years (52-58 overall, 7-25 B1G) and hasn't been able to recruit the elite Jersey girls.
Program had 2 good wins last year against ranked teams (Iowa and Stanford) but also a couple of bad losses. Finished by losing its last four games, all to Top 25 B1G teams, by a combined 16-4. Record was a best-ever 3-5 in the B1G, 9-9 overall.
Like too many other sports, the top NJ kids (and parents?) look down on RU. Reality is that field hockey players are typically good students and look to the Ivies and elite privates. Look at the choices of the 2017 first team all-state girls -- 2 to Stanford, 2 to Princeton, 1 to each of Penn, Villanova, and UConn, plus a soph who's verballed to BC and junior to Ohio State.
I don't think anything changes until this staff, or the next one, brings in enough foreign talent to get to the NCAA tournament a couple times. There'll be a half-dozen on next year's roster. Let's hope that the staff can build a competitive B1G program on imports and developmental Jersey kids.
