What did we run for about 180 yrds?probably asking why our players leftover from flood are so bad at holding their blocks. i agree though...why bother asking when we all know the answer.

We can all agree with this.Gio has obviously been progressing as the season went on in practice and earned playing time. I'm surprised this is so perplexing to people.
Kudos to him as well as the staff for his development.
Have to agree.yes and we were obviously average/above average at wr with the addition of grant. [eyeroll] tell me...how many career receiving touchdowns does he have? our wide receiver situation was still absolutely terrible even with grant.
I'll answer the questions for you. Janarion grant had exactly 1 receiving TD his ENTIRE 4 year career here. Go look it up. he was an above average scatback and barely an average WR.
harris is a good find but who knows if he'd be here if another school let him play both ways
Actually I'd say teams run a 2 qb system in order to get the talents of each on the field. Not to accommodate the play book.Yes. This is why there are teams that run a 2 QB system.
The football IQ on this forum is about 1st grade level.
God bless you, you always see the glass as half full. i was that way 40 years ago, maybe i just see the same reaccuring show . i can only hope you are rightbecause DM's presence has nothing to do with the continued development of the spread qb left on our roster from the previous regime.
can you people wrap your heads around the fact that this kid may have improved continuously? he wasnt good...like at all..in the spring. takes a giant leap forward in the summer. is it really that hard to wrap your heads around the fact that this kid continued to progress from the summer until now?
oh god! DM in over his head! we were only able to put up 31 points against a 4-2 (now 5-2) big ten opponent who lost to penn state by 3 in happy valley and absolutely demolished maryland last week with their backup qb. get real. we are not getting another OC until DM gets the chance to work with some ACTUAL talent/personnel.
how about some credit to the staff for working with ALL the quarterbacks closely and developing this forgotten one into a serviceable option. i guess thats too much to ask, though.
I hear you and somewhat agree. But why? That game was a freakin' disgrace, wouldn't you agree, and on Homecoming no less.
Dude, you need to watch the games more closely. Most of Dre's TDs this season are 50/50 balls.patton is average at best. would be nice if he fought for balls consistently. as our top WR though...its a pretty sad state of affairs as far as our talent at the position.
Again..average at best. He is not going to sniff the nfl.Dude, you need to watch the games more closely. Most of Dre's TDs this season are 50/50 balls.
Something had to have been wrong with his throwing motion and someone fixed it. Because the Gio I saw in the spring game throwing, to the one with pin point accuracy before the injury were two different QB's throwing the ball. That's the only way I can figure out what change in him so rapidly. Your right the transformation is quite amazing when comparing that short a time frame. Someone on this staff knows what they're doing with QB's.No..Gio was simply awful. Something like 1-8 and the misses were UGLY. I thought he was the best fit and was watching him closely. Dare was way better last spring. You need watch so can contrast THAT Gio to one you saw on Saturday one of the more amazing developments I've ever seen in one season.
I hear you and somewhat agree.
But the mission in 2012 was BCS game or bust. Kent State win or lose didn't matter in this equation. That's all I'm saying.
Pitt is the one that just makes you go UGH!
And the Louisville game IMO as I have said over and over on here was a good enough game by the guys in the headsets. But the helmet wearers? Not so much.
It is an interesting question. The question I haven't seen asked is gio really this good ? Maybe he just had the game of his life. Hey , I am hoping he is the real deal .
He'll have better shot than Grant.Again..average at best. He is not going to sniff the nfl.
Well we're not talking the next Peyton Manning here. But in his 1st half of football he completed 10 of 18 120yds. 1TD 1Int. and added another 37 yds. rushing. This performance was without any 1st team reps during game preparation. Then we go to the 2nd game 22 of 38 220 yds. 3TD 2Int. 26 yds. rushing despite an injury which severely hampered his throwing motion. This shows clear progression as he receives 1st team prep. reps for the week. The question I haven't seen asked is gio really this good ? Maybe he just had the game of his life. Hey , I am hoping he is the real deal .

This shows clear progression as he receives 1st team prep. reps for the week. This tells me he is getting more and more comfortable with the offense and the personnel. Could he have a bad game sure, but you don't lose the poise he showed in the pocket from one week to the next. That type of coolness under pressure can't be taught, when he did leave the pocket he had a plan and didn't scramble around in a chicken dance. In conclusion I highly doubt this is a one game wondered. I believe he's just beginning to scratch the surface of his talent.
I am not comparing him to or saying he is Lamar Jackson or JT Barrett. But in Lamar Jackson's first two games, he threw 1 TD and 3 INTs. In JT Barrett's first 2 games, he threw 3 TDs and 4 INTs.It is an interesting question.
But we do know 2 things, he has a strong arm, and he can make plays with his feet.
We also know ball security has been an issue. Not uncommon for an inexperienced QB.
Look he's a young QB he's going to make mistakes that's a given. But the more he plays and with his poise(which I haven't seen from an RU QB in over 5yrs.) the more the game is going to slow down for him. Some QB's never exhibit the poise this kid has in his 1st game and a half. That's simply one of the biggest attributes a QB can have which can't be taught or seen in practice.I hope you're right . The Rutgers fan in me is a skeptic
It's so much easier to complain.
Flood too stubborn to play anyone but Laviano ... Flood is terrible, has to go.
Flood goes, but next coach agrees with Flood, starts Laviano? Maybe the Lynch mob was wrong about him not being the best on the roster? No, new coach is an idiot too.
Ash shows flexibility everyone wanted to see from Flood in playing/developing other qbs. Good news!? No, complain about timing, amount of playing time.
Ash replaces Laviano with a much more exciting option. Celebrate that the team is watchable again? Nah, complain it should have happened sooner.
If only all our coaches were as smart and prescient as our b1tchy fans, we'd have some serious NC metal by now.
Exactly.I understand a lot of your points and see where you are coming from that maybe we complain too much. However, you act as if laviano was playing average or slightly below average. He was awful. After last year, it seemed like we would never see him start again. However, I will give the staff the benefit of the doubt that they thought he was best. -After the first two games, it was painfully obvious that he was not getting better, and was never going to be better than bad.
So yes, maybe gio was not the obvious answer early on, but to me the obvious answer was someone other than laviano. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to say that the decision to make the switch came too late.
It has been said many times before that CL was seen as a safe and competent game manager who was not prone to turning the ball over. What this ultimately resulted in is a low risk, low reward offense. Maybe Gio was seen as less careful with the ball and more turnover-prone, and that sent a red flag to the coaches. Higher risk on turnovers, but he has shown to be high reward as well in the 6 quarters we have seen him. I'll take an offense with a pulse and puts up points if it means we have to deal with some turnovers over an offense that was flatlining without any turnovers.I understand a lot of your points and see where you are coming from that maybe we complain too much. This is so true - Flood and his staff's stubbornness dealing with the offense held that team from reaching the BCS game in 2012. I still have pains thinking about that seasonpeople overlook that Pitt game no show but if RU won that game it would have wrapped up the BC bid without having to beat Louisville. It didnt have to come down to that. The Pitt game was a no show of epic proportions by Flood and the way they called plays in the first half showed no balls on the coaching staffs part

I understand the skepticism, but this kid is showing the stuff that can't be taught. Like knowing when to step up in the pocket or take off with the ball or simply throw it away.(bullshit call on intentional grounding) Just remember he hasn't worked much with these WR's yet. You get to work with them when your 1st team. And now the majority of coaching will be focused on him.
The players helped in that endeavor too. More so than the staff in the Louisville game. This is so true - Flood and his staff's stubbornness dealing with the offense held that team from reaching the BCS game in 2012. I still have pains thinking about that season
Very true.Player development seems to be an alien concept to many RU fans. Gio wasn't playing because he wasn't good enough. He seems to have developed and improved. It happens. Particularly, it happens at programs that win. If we could get this kind of player development on the OL, we might have something.
Great post.because DM's presence has nothing to do with the continued development of the spread qb left on our roster from the previous regime.

What is the Italian word for this? Why does it take so long to barbecue a pork shoulder? Some things just take time, and cannot be rushed.
If you're saying that about Patton, what do you say about the quarterbacks he's had throwing to him? Patton's a serviceable receiver when he's working with a serviceable quarterback. The last two games in which Gio played, Patton had 9 receptions for 163 yards, which puts him at an 18.1 yards per reception average. That's pretty decent.Again..average at best. He is not going to sniff the nfl.
I get that and I think he's a nice #3 wr on a good team..but we have one decent option and wr with any experience and that's pretty much it..plus, he might be decent but with his speed and lack of td's during college he's just not gonna get much of a chance with playing after Rutgers. If you're saying that about Patton, what do you say about the quarterbacks he's had throwing to him?
