Shayne Van Ness, son of former RU great Rodney Van Ness, representing Blair steamrolled a talented field at the Geary tournament in Oklahoma to win the 132 pound crown. Only a soph, he pinned his first two opponents including Witcraft of Broken Arrow Oklahoma who is #1 in the country. Witcraft, an Oklahoma State commit best Shayne’s teammate at 126 in the Ironman, I think. Shayne has now won the Beast of the East, Ironman (OW) and Geary. Kid is beating all top kids in country. He is a must get and every school in country will want him.

Robert Howard lost in SV at the Doc B. Tourney.

JOJo Aragona in semifinals tomorrow at Sam Cali tournament in West Orange.

Congratulations to Van Ness!

Schultz just pinned Villarreal in DOC B finals- I know we were looking at him who was a teammate of Aguilar.

After Ironman and Beast, these later Tournaments not quite as loaded..

He’s probably going to be the #1 p4p recruit of his graduating class...only a soph and already beating the best SR in the nation already... usually kids this good this early end up competing for NCAA title right when they step on campus...

Of the last 7 #1 recruit(not counting 2018 class)... 4/7 have become NCAA champs(M. Hall,Snyder, Tshirt,Steiber) and 6/7 became AA... actually if A.Valencia can AA it would make it 7/7.......

Basically yeah... Shayne is a lock of a recruit to be future AA and NCAA champ..

Witcraft was in control of that match early - up 7-2 I believe. He was getting to Van Ness' legs the entire first period. Van Ness was relentless in his attacks after the first and Witcraft was clearly out of gas. He kept pushing and tied it up at 8 in the 3rd before finally catching him for the fall. He is a stud.

Malcolm Robinson committed last year from Blair.

A few years earlier, Mario Mason, Blair was on the roster.

I think as RU improves the program and facilities, more Blair wrestlers will consider RU.
2 Blair wrestlers recently committed to NC St. Is NC St that much different than RU ?

Goodale and staff already made inroads with Bergen Catholic (Suriano, Grello, Lipari and Pagano). There was a time some would not think that possible.

Got Mulligan too from BC, even though he didn’t pan out. Getting Blair kids will be the difference between us remaining just a perennial top 20 team and turning the corner into a perennial top 10 team.

Howard lost to Moshe Schwartz. That kid is a must get. Go back a few years and he was the only person willing to challenge spencer lee for the junior world spot. Schwartz got mauled, but he doesn’t run from competition. That’s a kid who will outperform his ranking by a lot.

It was a fun match to watch. Wittcraft was taking it to him in the first period. Couldn't keep up with the pace of Van Ness though. Kid is impressive.

Schwartz is good but Howard was up big and blew that match by not being able to make the in match adjustments to stop the one move Schwartz kept hitting on him. He will fix that. Schwartz is already committed to N. Colorado.

Look at the history of Blair kids - They don't come to Rutgers.

Yeah, but part of that is that:

1. Most Blair kids aren't from NJ. They come here to wrestle at Blair and have no ties to NJ or Rutgers.
2. Rutgers for most of its history was not anything like Rutgers today, esp. with new facility opening this year
3. Obviously in this case, the father was a Rutgers guy, so that has to help

Here is flo wrestling post Ironman video, where towards the end of the video , the host asks Van Ness is he thinking of colleges yet. Paraphrasing he said he's keeping all options open, that life after wrestling is a big consideration, that he'll look at IVY league and other places.
In other words, it's too early to tell, lol.
You probably need a subscription to watch:

Then let’s get his ass on the banks! Who gives a damn who else is recruiting him? If we want him, give him a solid scholarship and go get him.

We have :
his father as an alum
The chance to scrap with suriano all year at skwc
Our best coach is a lightweight coach in pritzlaf.

Get the commitment and then go get a hammer at another weight as well

He is only a sophomore so there are only a few things you can do. He will have a full ride from every school of prominence in the country when his time comes, including RU

Any relation to RU football HOFer Bruce Van Ness?

By the time he arrives, won't Nick be on his way to an MMA career?
