I know this has been beaten to death but we are sooo damn pathetic for a state school. Even by dumb luck we shoulda made the tournament once in the last 2 decades. We have no vision, no understanding on how to build a cohesive team, no leadership. We could be the worst run program in the country given our size and nearby regional talent. THE WORST.

So hard to fathom how bad we are, especially at this time of the year when so many schools are playing meaningful games.

That's it Sam. Let it all out.
You feel better?
After year 20 I became numb to not being part of
selection Sunday.
It gets easier as the years go by.
Hang in there.
It won't phase you in another decade or so.

There are 5 Indiana teams in the Midwest Region (Notre Dame, Valparaiso, Indiana, Purdue, Butler)

And the good people of Iowa have how many pro teams to follow? And what percentage of the legislators went to a state school? And the taxpayers and their legislators love their state schools how much?

because we live in a unique state things are different here...we are like the only state in the country that does not have its own affiliates meaning we are shaped and guided by two cities that are pro towns.

we lack identity somewhat because our demographic is so diverse. there is no rallying around the state U like it is in most other states.

I notice Wyoming state legislator also kicked in for their renovation plans matching donated funds

these schools care and take pride in their schools athletic success...only in NJ is spending on athletics frowned upon

Don't forget that we have made every mistake possible along the way. The lack of support is the big-picture reason, but several times in this streak the team has been close and choked down the stretch. 1999 in particular comes to mind. This has been a complete and total failure from the state to the university to the athletic department to the coaches to the players. It's truly amazing there are many of us left who still buy season tickets. But there is always next year!

None of the Iowa coaches are Iowa natives - Pennsylvania, Nebraska, North Dakota. Iowa State has a St. Anthony player. Iowa has a Frankfurt, Germany player via Point Pleasant Beach (NJ). All teams loaded with 4 and 5 year players. All teams have length/size.

The 3 teams from Iowa have real coaches. They also have players who can actually shoot the ball. I believe Fred Hoiberg (Iowa State) is an Iowa native, if I'm not mistaken.

Notre Dame has Matt Farrell, also from Point Pleasant Beach, though he didn't get much PT as a freshman.

NJ has shown little interest in supporting college athletics. The fan bases are small and the media attention is minimal unless there is a scandal which draws headlines.Worse of all is the inability to have high school talent want to stay home and play before their families and friends. Its almost like their is a plague covering NJ and top recruits want to get out of the state and breathe fresh air.Unlike other states NJ politicians see no advantage in supporting college athletics or higher education .The NCAA has national interest because of the wide array of schools that are invited but in NJ there is only shaking of the head and rooting for Duke,Notre Dame ,Villanova and UConn and Syracuse when they are invited.
