So Do We Want Hyatt, Massoud or the PG (Mc X?)...

We got 2 commits in a week and we only have one open scholarship left. I would think that last one would be used only on a grad transfer or a very highly rated guy like Hyatt.

If grad transfer this year, then two of the combo of Massoud, Hyatt and Mulcahy for next. If Hyatt this year, then Mulcahy or Massoud.
I doubt Mulcahy comes to Rutgers now after the Texas transfer commitment.I expect a grad transfer for 2018 and then Massoud and another inside player for 2019-20.

I think we found something out with Mulcahy this week. Hawk indicates he’s pretty much gone with the first “name” school offer.

I’ve only seen Mulcahy play in person once, against Roselle Catholic at the RAC.

I agree with Jerry Carino that he is vastly underrated by the recruiting services. He was the best player on the floor in that game and displayed skills that translate immediately to the next level.

I seriously doubt Mulcahy won’t be getting some big name offers over the summer and fall. I’m not sure if Nova will be in the mix given that there’s really no limit on how high they can recruit. But I’d be very surprised if Rutgers doesn’t face much stiffer competition to land Mulcahy before his recruitment is over.

Nova has their choice of kids now. And if mulcahy wants to go to Florida they are not going to have kids there to push for playing time?

He was better than Naz Reid ?

In the game I watched, absolutely.

Lots of people who visit this board were at the same game and one of the biggest points of discussion was how unremarkable Naz Reid was. And he was being guarded by a kid about 6 inches shorter and probably 50lbs lighter than him. Naz is nowhere near a finished product on the basketball court.

Do you really think Mulcahy can go to any P5 program without an existing PG on the roster? You sound like he is scared to compete. I doubt that, but, if it's true I would not want him.

If he goes to this name program, he will not be handed a starting spot...may not get one for 2 or 3 years. Divincenzo at Villanova never got a starting spot and he declared for the NBA.

I don;t think Mulcahy is afraid of competition. The issues are scholarship availability for 2019-20 and playing for a team with a winning tradition/NCAA bids.

I'll be happy with any one of them. I trust Pike and his staff are working as hard as they can. They'll get good players

Naz Reid is very inconsistent. I have seen him play at least 10 times. Often he is invisible. There are times he dominates. I think he was in better shape as a junior than he was this past season as a senior. I just wonder how he will do at LSU. There are times that it looks like he is just going through the motions. When he is really psyched to play he is amazing.

One transfer sitting out, 5 guards, two 3's. two 4's, three 5's. New guy is a one-year guard--unless we catch lightning in a bottle and nab a 2019 guard reclassifying. But if we have five guards coming back for 2019-20-- and Young is now eligible-- that is six guards.

--that is six guards. One too many.

Hyatt in 2018 and Massoud in 2019

I would love this but wonder if we can afford to and NOT take a big with the last ship
This would be exactly who I would take if the option was there. If Hyatt waits until 2019, you hold the scholarship unless there’s a grad transfer and the ship will still be available. I think we can wait until 2020 to go after a Big!

You have to hold for Hyatt. If he commits elsewhere or stays 2019, grad transfer makes sense but I agree with board keeping 2 spots open for next year.

Yeah, this is a problem. A real good problem to have, of course, but one that must be considered. If we can land Hyatt for 2018, I think we MUST get a "big" for 2019, as Omoruyi and Carter will both be seniors in 2019, leaving just Doucoure and Johnson as the only two bigs on the roster in 2020.

No need to worry about any of these guys, massoud, Hyatt, mulcahy. They are going to be tough to get. Getting just one of them will be a big get for pike. If he loses out on all 3 it won’t be because he “can’t close the deal.” And if all 3 go to bigger programs, so be it. Pike will get good players who want to be here and turn the program around and believe in his style.

Saw a pic of coaches that visited Mulcahy in Bayonne. I competed against a Paul Mulcahy while growing up in Bayonne in basketball and football. He was a solid athlete and looks like a spitting image of the PM RU is recruiting just a few inches shorter. Wonder if they’re related. If it’s his kid damn I’m getting old.

GO RU
