Sports Illustrated has us hiring this guy

Uptempo no huddle offense (it's a spread relying on a DT QB)

former CEO of TD AmeriTrade (still the acting Chairman)

4th year head coach (teams finished ranked #24 in fcs year 1, #7 year 2, #5 year 3, and are currently ranked #2)

He has a "Terry Shea" look going on. Maybe he had an introduction at Rutgers when his team played at Monmouth last weekend.

Talk about outside the box.
Maybe he would bring back our old mascot.

Guy has had a couple of really good years... he might be an interesting choice for someone. Can he recruit on a higher level though?

That would be a hell of an out of the box hire. A 67 year old FCS head coach of 4 years. I will say that I don't think age would be a problem with him. He has a ton of energy.

Intriguing.

If there is any truth that Julie is looking at him as a possible coach, I wonder if the idea might be that he could be a great stopgap until the Big Ten money starts coming in. Could make sense. He'd be of the age to give a couple of solid years and would probably retire around the time we get a full conference share.

The OP misses the headlines from this story

. But there's still some mystery as to who will make the hire, as no one in the industry expects Rutgers administrators to trust Julie Hermann. But does Rutgers have a competent enough administration to fire Hermann, hire a capable replacement and run a search? The clock is ticking.

Greg Schiano isn't expected to have any interest in returning. This may be the most difficult job to project, as there's so much uncertainty and so little interest among accomplished coaches.

Another question with him is if he can have the effect similar to Fiore as AD at Stonybrook? For those not familiar, he was a Wall St. guy (hedge fund I think) who became AD at Stonybrook and then put fund raising efforts through his Wall St. contacts and built programs and facilities rapidly. Moglia is wealthy and has wealthy friends - maybe he convinces them to bet on his success and support the program (at least he'd be comfortable speaking to a room full of welathy people looking for donors).

Jeez. This guy can coach.

I don't know if he can walk into the Top 20 NJ players living rooms and get them to come, but he can coach.

Ignore whatever Pete Thamel says. The guy is a professional troll. I'm not sure if it's the fact that he went to Cuse or what, but he has a thing for RU. Him and his buddy Thayer Evans have no credibility after some of the stunts they've pulled. Also, if you're taking this garbage seriously, consider what Thamel wrote -- that RU is the worst job in the P5. Now ask yourself this: Would you rather have a job at RU or Thamel's alma mater, Cuse? Give me a break. The guy is a joke, no writers take him seriously.

Damn, even not considering football the dude has a pretty inspirational background. Pretty much succeeds at whatever he does.

Kinda old though.

You forgot the end to the story. He was let go because of some harassment issues IIRC.

I remember when Moglia would come on squawk box on CNBC pretty frequently. Seemed like a nice guy, first time I heard he went to coach football I was totally surprised.

Fully aware of how Fiore's tenure ended there (I wanted him here as our AD before Hermann was hired) but didn't think it was relevant because i just wanted to point out how Fiore used his connections on Wall St. to fund raise.

Good resume, age would be a big concern to me. No one else on that SI list does much for me.

What he said was that Rutgers could be the worst Power 5 job on the market this year. That's not quite the same thing.

Didn't read the articale but my guess this is the 7-0 coach from Coastal Carolina, right?
College show on ESPN today listed opening and hot seats and who was around. Anthony Becht listed taking this guy as the most out of the box..and said Beamer was his hot seat pick. The first name the other noted was Flood.

"With so many other low-tier jobs Power 5 expected to open, don't expect many hot coaches to jump at Rutgers, which is in the conversation with Indiana for the worst job in the Big Ten East. Rutgers also may be the worst major conference job on the market."

Wow - is this really the perception and/or reality of RU? We already have had stadium/facility upgrades and are in a very fertile recruiting area, which regardless of personal opinions, kids in HS know only of RU being a competitive team that has gone to bowl games in 10-11 years and gets buzz in the area when we have a big game. Surprised that the job would be viewed in this manner.

He can promise the top recruits jobs for their parents at TD Ameritrade or whenever they graduate.

I think Illinois has to be worse. RU is beating them in home attendance by about 10,000 a game. Attendance at RU for Norfolk State was 47,453. The Illini could only get 45,438 fans for Wisconsin, and that was their highest attended game of the year.

Same with MD attendance-wise. The only reason MD is better is b/c of the UA$ and the new facility they are building.

Clearly you haven't read much of what Thamel has written about RU, but thanks.

Joe Moglia can be an answer for Rutgers. He truly cares for his players and is very passionate about everything that he does in life. He literally left wall street because he wanted to coach.

I know his son really well and talk to him daily. They are very similar in personalities, both work hard.

This is just a random sports illustrated article. There was a WSJ piece about Joe and the Jets exactly a year ago...check out the link.
