It was just announced that Sterling Gibbs will graduate and leave Seton Hall to go to another school and be eligible immediately. This is a huge hit for SHU.

As much I am thrilled with Nigel Johnson coming here, imagine if we could have gotten Gibbs...would make the SHU game heated lol
addition by subtraction here for SHU....Gibbs brings a lot of baggage with him and SHU will be OK turning keys over to Whitehead....can't have 2 alpha dogs on the roster taking all the shots.....marginal impact on their win-loss record, gets other players involved and a chance to get minutes and shots.....SHU wasn't much with him and Whitehead anyway.
We definitely don't need a senior alpha dog here...it is not about '15-'16 performance. A base that hasn't been built needs to be. I hope Jordan doesn't fal in to any more traps.

I don't know about that one. They have a competitive starting five but not a lot of quality depth. Gibbs was the one guy on that team who could be relied upon for scoring every night.
It's a pretty big loss IMO. More PT for the sophs to develop I guess but still...

Not sure I agree with you there Hawk. Cold-cock episode aside, Gibbs was a legit candidate for BE POY.

oh and BTW, this is further proof that what players/recruits tweet is absolutely meaningless. He tweeted numerous times that he was staying at SHOE
70% of the shots next year would have been between those two players if he stayed (in games that would be competitive)....There were very bad chemistry problems and issues surrounding both Gibbs and Whitehead last year, and there were a bunch of behind the scenes items working against their roster if he stayed.
The Big East is not a great league, so if Gibbs takes 20 shots a night and averages 22PPG and Whitehead takes 18 shots and you have 70 possessions and 12 to 14 turnovers a games, where are your first shots coming from in the flow of the offense with the other players?? It's not as if the other players on the roster weren't split or divided on who they were aligned with during games and after games.
They were not making the NCAA's with Gibbs and Whitehead and were at best an NIT team. I would have pegged them for at best 5th in the Big East with them both, but the thought that SHU is now going 9-23 is not happening either. I am more inclined to avoid looking at stats only and watched a bunch of their games closely, especially once things unraveled late in the year. Players freezing others out and ignoring open players, while the other guard forces up shots. What happened last year to SHU was not by accident and wasn't repairable......that's the main reason Gibbs is departing.

No way RU looks at Gibbs in this scenario.....publically coaches have to say all the right things, especially in recruiting, but this is just my opinion from what I've heard....Temple Gibbs will likely follow Sterling to Notre Dame, that was the long rumored location 2 to 3 weeks ago when the Final Four was ending, with UConn as 1A or 1B, dependent on who you listen to.

I disagree about taking Gibbs. I would take him. I would also recruit his younger brother hard, and this might help with that. To compete in the B1G, RU needs to upgrade its talent as much as possible. Sterling has talent. EJ has experience managing different personalities from the NBA.
I heard Gibbs was close to Sina and wonder if the way Sina was supposedly treated at the Hall had Sterling decide he didn't want to stay .
Don't know if it would be a help if Gibbs came on board, might not help Sanders take control of the team and might unnecessarily upset the chemistry of the young 2015-2016 RU MBB team.

SHU is only left with 3 guards counting Whitehead who often plays the SF/swing position. The other 2 are Carrington and Soffer, the incoming freshman from California who originally committed to Loyola of Baltimore. They are really thin at guard. I guess Morton's son might have to finally play. We only had Mack, Daniels & Williams for the most of the season last year. When Daniels was out we only had Mack and Williams when we played SHU and Williams got 2 fouls in the first 5 minutes and we had to throw Batie and Dadika into the game for important minutes. Very quickly the score got blown way out of proportion when SHU pressed our walkon's. They will have almost the same situation that we had that day unless they can find another guard. Carrington and Whitehead cannot play 40 minutes game in and game out. I can see us coming with a hard press this coming season.
I think Tiny has cleared out all of Whitehead's competition for shots at Seton Hall now. Well done.
I would take Gibbs over any Rutgers player because he was a go to scorer at a high level of competition.At the same time I don't expect him or his brother coming to Rutgers because they want to be on a team that will play in the NCAA Tournament.Notre Dame fits their needs along with the fact they played for Catholic high schools.
In our game vs SHU they looked almost unstoppable. Then they proceeded to tank and hit the bottom of the new BE

Well if SHU should add Eli Carter than Whitehead will again have someone who likes to shoot the ball to take Gibbs' place.
If I were SHU I would take Eli Carter-----a 1 year experienced player who can shoot.

Carter will shoot, a lot, but he's still not a real accurate shooter. Could see more problems with Carter and Whitehead.
There is only one basketball. Somehow I think if there was an ego thing between Gibbs and Whitehead it will show up again if Carter and Whitehead play on the same team.
The only way Gibbs would help here or anyone for that matter is if they could play into a team concept. Ugly watching gibbs play iso ball this year at times. Not a greater defender.
Whoever plays here has to want to play with other period. A great starting five with a decent bench wins basketball games. Every person has a part in the win.

The notion that a player with Gibb's talent wouldn't help is absurd because he is a proven scorer which is something that Rutgers simply lacks season after season.Talk about team concept is meaningless .There have been far too many complementary players at Rutgers that simply couldn't score.Uconn is a elite program that wants Gibbs which tells me all that I need to know.
