Besides the Olympics today is that start of the 2018 NASCAR season (first race). The Daytona 500 is one of the rights of passage of late winter-a sign spring is on the way. Not following the closest but was real happy to see Martin Truex Jr. (formerly of Mayetta, NJ/Southern Regional HS) break thRU last year and win the NASCAR Championship. Truex lost the 500 last year literally by a nose.

Any fans out there? I know Piscataway Mike and brother (haven't had a phone recently to text them) at usually in a NASCAR pool-wanted to surprise them this year but no money...

I attended the 1st televised Daytona 500 in 1979-also known for: 1)A major East Coast blizzard from Maine-Georgia that dumped 2 feet of snow over (over 2 days?) most of the East Coast and 2) A last lap win by Richard Petty after Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison collided on the last (3rd) turn and wound up in a in the infield. The one uncle I was with just passed two weeks ago.

Im ready fer the season to begin!
Hope fer some exciting racing today.
Planning on going to see this race next year! Cant wait for the experience.
Three drivers I think can win today... Elliot, Blaney, Wallace, boy he looks like he has a strong car

Any asinine points or format changed this season? Also, lots of big names keep retiring.

Have to admit - liked it better when they would take cars that could have been headed to the showroom and transformed them into race cars.
Now they make out-and-out race cars and pop a giant plastic body shell on them - a shell that is sort of a cartoonish (think - Lightning McQueen) representation of a production car.

Gentlemen - Start your Engines ! Oh wait, you started them already, lol, I was watching RU pound Princeton in wrasslin !!

Go Truex !

Was just wondering. Is there a reason for two threads, on the same thing, started by the same person?

Sorry-I don't have high speed. It's real difficult to see if a post went through. If I get kicked off before I can get back on that's usually it for me. Don't throw me under the (white) bus

Kicked off?

I haven't heard anyone say that since the Shea days...

4Real- Guess you haven't seen any of the messages here from the moderators to some of us! ;>)

Actually referring to my connection-piggybacking on a slow Cisco router.

Chase Elliot got turned around. Appears to be out. Damaged Hamlin, Patrick (looks out) and Casey Kahne I think. 3rd time in row Truex barely avoids...

Ryan Blaney with the win in stage 2. One guy I've had my eyes on all day-driving like a bastard but somehow got a lap down is Joey Lagano. Came out of nowhere to almost take stage 2 from his teammate.

TRUex with a tire violation- not good. Tied for 2nd (with a few today)with 11 stage points. Back up to 9th w 72 laps to go.

Well I picked Elliot, Blaney, both could have won but its racin!
Bubba comes in second ridin the doors and fenders off Hamlins Toyota.
Exciting ending to a great race.

Fun race and a good ending.
Gonna be in Vegas when the race is out there. Anyone been? Casino is offering free tix to and shuttle transportation both ways. Seems like it would be worth it but gotta convince the wife!

So Mr. Silver Spoon Austin Dillon crashed the leader on purpose and got this win. Great start to the season.

I don't get the need/appeal for the new rules. Was it to draw more TV fans to watch earlier? Start a race, finish it like always.

I have been there, it is a great track. Shuttle is the way to go, there is one road in and out so traffic sucks. The shuttles get to use a private road and cut across the Air force base.

I may be wrong but I think there R two real good concerts in Vegas that week. Bon Jovi? Kenny Chesney? U2? Plus betting the NCAA tourney.

Can it be that the was designed in the late 80'sy 90's (25 years?) already. During that time I was on a 2 weekish temp assignment and worked with (then) NJ racer Jimmy Horton's mother. As I recall she told me her son 's input was solicited and even went to Vegas to help out with.

I believe the current 1.5 mile setup opened in 95 or 96
