Targum: Giovanni Rescigno delivers best Rutgers' quarterback play of season in debut as starter

Why is the writer for the Targum a better writer than those on NJ.com?

"His strengths in the running game were a known commodity entering Saturday, but the success he had through the air, especially from inside the pocket, was somewhat unexpected.
On all three of Rescigno's touchdown passes, he stood strong in the pocket and demonstrated his accuracy to all three passing levels."

"In addition to his accurate passing from inside the pocket, the Warren, Michigan, native also used his mobility to navigate out of enclosing pockets, expanding passing plays to give his receivers more time to get open downfield. "

That TD to Patton was just perfectly thrown:

I want Gio to finish this season strong and go in as the starter next year. He is the transitional QB we need and I think he can have a good senior season which would be an awesome story. Really happy for this kid.

If Gio can grab the bull by the horns and be our man for at least the next two to three years, we'll be in great shape, as that will give enough time for Tylin and Johnathan to develop.

Gio has two more seasons to play after this year. He will be a redshirt junior next year.

Thank you. I just realized this. Very compelling and kind of exciting. I didn't realize he was a year younger in football than I thought.

Totally and completely agree.

The competition will be good for Oden and the incoming freshman QB. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Yeah I agree. Also excited at the prospect of having some continuity as far as QB and offensive system/coordinator for a few years, as I feel that is the only way to really have good seasons. You gotts develop players and offenses over a few years.

Things have brightened considerably on offense, but we will have to make up for lost seniors on the OL--that will be the biggest challenge on offense next year.

But even so, there is no turning back. The offense looks completely alive with Gio behind center.

All many of us have wanted was the opportunity to see someone other than Laviano when the scored was still 0-0. I still maintain lots of other games would have turned out differently if a different QB got that opportunity. I like what we saw from Gio. Hopefully, he can take the hits because he took quite a few. But he got his opportunity and ran with it. More power to him.

Would love to see him have a great game in Michigan next year and Sparty next month. Two chances to show his talents in his home state.
