I think the real story is that even if HC Pike were to leave for another job - Rutgers Basketball is a desirable program now.

This isn't football where "poaching" a HC is an issue and we need to vastly overpay just to get a decent canidate.
We would likely have coaches begging us for an opportunity and AD Hobbs would have his choice of canidates.

I don't think Pike leaves until he retires.

However, if he did, I'd want him to go before Knight leaves for a head coaching position. Hiring Knight to replace Pike would be a seamless transition. If Knight left, then Pike left, I'm not sure where we would turn.

I like Knight but he’s not ready to lead a B1G program. This is all hypothetical of course but we couldn’t risk Pike’s development of the program on an unproven HC. Rutgers should be able to pull top HCs from non-P5 schools and even some P5 schools.

Tom Izzo stepped in seamlessly for Jud Heathcoate at Michigan State. He's been a pretty good head coach. :)

I can see a coach being promised access to a boat load of NIL money being a factor. It must be horrible to have everything a kid wants in a school and coach but see him get offered a dollar amount by another school that he just can't refuse.
