Jeff Buxton, one of the most highly decorated and successful wrestling coaches in America has been named Assistant Wrestling Coach at Columbia. For the last 3 1/2 years Coach Buxton served as the Head Coach of the SKWC. He was Sebastian Rivera's primary coach when Seb won the World Silver Medal in Belgrade in 2023 and the Olympic Bronze Medal in Paris last August. Buxton is credited with elevating the level of many Rutgers wrestlers while at the SKWC.

As the head coach at Blair Academy, he coached 12 future NCAA champions and 41 All Americans as well as coached 10 USA number one ranked teams. He served as an assistant coach for the USA Senior World Team in Kazakhstan. In 2018, Coach Buxton was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The Rutgers and SKWC coaches and athletes have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with and learned from Coach Buxton.

Thank you, Coach Buxton, for your dedication and loyalty. May you continue to excel as you develop wrestlers for success on the mat and in life. It has been an honor watching you coach at Rutgers.

We were fortunate to have him at Rutgers. Not only a great coach but also a great ambassador for the sport.
I second the thought that we were honored to have a man of his caliber in the program.

I mean it’s great and all that Columbia gutted our coaching staff… so now what do we do??

I'm reading way too many of these to not feel a sense of apprehension. The SKWC board better move quick or I guess they'll punt on the year.

Last time I looked this is America and people are free to choose where they live and where they will work. Donny, Seabass and Buxton have decided to work at Columbia U rather than RU. Good for them and I wish them the best, except when they wrestle RU. We have already hired Mikey Labs and will soon address replacing Seabass and Buxton at SKWC

If you want to talk coaching, yes. It's not good. But I'll counter with four returning AAs, one of the most solid lineups Rutgers has ever had, and a very good recruiting class....the sky isn't falling.
fair...except wouldnt you agree that a huge reason for those results are now at Columbia?

I think that's the source of a lot of the agida here...

Sure but I think a bigger part of those results is the actual wrestler

If Columbia starts randomly churning out 2+ AA every year now then you might have a good point..

I'm with you on that. It will be interesting to see what coaching replacements arrive and what happens to the roster, but for now, I like the guys who will be on the mat for RU.

Which will also be affected by these departures...no?
The wrestlers aren’t going to forget how to wrestle. Losing these guys stinks, there’s no debate there. But we still have talented guys that will be fine without them.
