The Biggest Rivals For All CFB Teams

I've only been a fan since GS1.0. In that time, Louisville has been our only true rival, IMHO. We hurt them. They hurt us. Every game meant something. Might PSU be most hated? Sure, maybe. But, the subject is 'rival'

It's not a rival when you are 2-33 or something lopsided like that! We hate them, we all do, but its as much hating St. Joseph Paterno than Penn State at this point.

Our rival would have been Syracuse or UConn if the Big East was still together, but those were only developing. We haven't had anything in football like we had with Princeton (cannon wars).

There's no flame in our series/games with Maryland, so I don't see that developing either. Like Penn State we might be 'Unrivaled' but potentially for different reasons.

A rivalry is based on many years of 2 teams playing each other. However it must be a competitive series with both teams winning to fuel the passions. Honestly, at this point you can’t say RU has a rival. I don’t consider PSU a rival because we haven’t been competitive with them. I think Maryland has potential , both geographically and at some point on the field. They have had the upper hand since being in the B1G.

The way conferences have been reshuffled. It’s hard to start or maintain any rivalries. You don’t even play the same teams every season. And with it being a mega conference there’s just much fewer % of games that impact the conference title

I agree with the sentiment that we can’t consider psu a rival since they crush us but i have to think that if you ask a bunch of RU fans who they most want to beat in any given year I have to assume PSU would top that list - and by a wide margin . So imho that make them our biggest rival

We’ve won two games…EVER…against the cult…the last time, the 20th century still had 12 years left…🤭 …sure…a rivalry…many, many things wrong with that flow chart

Notice the arrow going one way
Hence, them not considering us a rival

Speaking of cults, the one down in College Station also has an arrow pointing one way towards Austin
Shockingly, Bevo isn't pointing back (actually, there's no arrows pointing at those weirdo's)

It is tough as we are still fairly new to the B1G- in conference- I put Maryland well ahead of PSU as our rival.

While in the BE (post 2000)- I would say that UConn/Syracuse, though, Pitt was starting to get there but because they would always have WVU and VT as their biggest, it would have been hard to be bigger than that. USF was also a very good game back in those days.

As much as I detest State Penn I just wouldn't consider them our biggest rivals. I think our recent games against the Rotting, Decrepit Fruit highlight that we still detest them as much as they detest us.

Do they still have that 45 page thread active on their board describing how they don't think about us?

Syracuse, right now, probably is Rutgers biggest rival considering how both fanbases feel about the other.
Maryland might be the rivalry in the B1G, but both fanbases pine for Penn State to be the one.
PSU fans want Ohio State but the B1G gave them MSU and both fanbases rejected that idea.
Michigan and Ohio State's rivalry is one of the biggest and PSU along with MSU as rivals not wanted or needed by the Buckeyes or Wolverines .
For now PSU feels the same way about RU & the Turtle Empire .

That's a glaring omission, as is Notre Dame not claiming USC is their rival
They've played 100 times, it's basically 50/50, they both have won nattys (although ancient times at this point), and they're in the same state. If that's not a rivalry I don't know what one is.

Did no one notice the arrows?

Two-way arrows indicate an actual rivalry. One-way arrows show the direction of a one-sided target, a red-circle game kind of situation.

Rutgers and Maryland -----> Penn State. Not a rivalry, not shown as one.

At least if you're going to keep getting things so wrong, you might as well be as overdramatic and aggressive as possible about it 😂😂
