Having seen Gio for a whole game now, he's at least as good of a passer as Laviano (better, I think, although he is throwing more INTs) and I can't imagine that wasn't clear in practice. And it should've been obvious he's a much better runner, just from measureables, but I wonder if the no-contact rule for QBs is a serious flaw for evaluating performance, especially in an offense where the QB running the ball is so important?
Hard to gauge how truly effective a QB can be in this offense if there isn't live running/tackling. I get the injury concerns, but maybe at least have some live contact scrimmages to adequately evaluate overall QB performance. Is this really that bad of an idea? And even without live contact sessions, given that the coaches had to know Gio was a better runner and should've known Gio and CL were probably similar in passing performance (and maybe they weren't and Gio is just better in games, I don't know) what were the coaches thinking all year, keeping CL in as the starter? I just don't get it.
