Having seen Gio for a whole game now, he's at least as good of a passer as Laviano (better, I think, although he is throwing more INTs) and I can't imagine that wasn't clear in practice. And it should've been obvious he's a much better runner, just from measureables, but I wonder if the no-contact rule for QBs is a serious flaw for evaluating performance, especially in an offense where the QB running the ball is so important?

Hard to gauge how truly effective a QB can be in this offense if there isn't live running/tackling. I get the injury concerns, but maybe at least have some live contact scrimmages to adequately evaluate overall QB performance. Is this really that bad of an idea? And even without live contact sessions, given that the coaches had to know Gio was a better runner and should've known Gio and CL were probably similar in passing performance (and maybe they weren't and Gio is just better in games, I don't know) what were the coaches thinking all year, keeping CL in as the starter? I just don't get it.

And he's limping already. We'd have no QBs if they had contact in practice.

Manny Collins would approve of this thread.

Always #LiveAction

Sorry - missing the joke/reference. I only recall Manny as a decent CB, who happened to be driving that horrible day in 2004 that the drunk driver, heading the wrong way on 18 caused the accident that put Asberry in the hospital for a long time.

Limited yes

Its why spring game tells us very liitle

That being said how this staff came to the conclusion that Laviano and Allen were the best two choices over Geo, Rettig and Oden is one of the most perplexing things about Rutgers football we have seen in years . Only real conclusion that can be reached about this is that staff valued summer voluntary work outs and compliance to their inspirational message more than they valued talent, review of prior game film and The eye test . The new staff learning a boy did the first half of the season get thrown away with Laviano as QB
