Yes, the horrendous free throw shooting did us in but despite that it was still ours to lose with 7 seconds remaining on the clock.
We stack four guys in the backcourt and its Eugene's job to get the ball to one of them.
Why did we not have one player break towards our basket providing an option to heave the inbound pass into the front court instead of congesting the back court?
Even if the ball is intercepted time was limited and our D would have been in a position to set up.
Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!

The inbound pass should have gone to Baker or Sanders and let them be fouled with a three point lead and two foul shots to be taken. Its too risky a play to throw the ball up court and not be intercepted.

So true. It still is beyond me how we could not get the ball in bounds twice in a row. Sanders or Baker had to get a step on their man at least once.

As I just wrote in another thread, the last two inbound failures is clearly on Pike and the staff. I don't blame them for a night of poor FT or poor effort on the glass but the inability to inbound the ball twice in such a short time period is inexcusable.

Why was Omoruyi inbounding twice?

What Sanders, Geo or. Williams? What about having Doorson, Sa or Thiam as the target at half court or 3/4 court?

Horrid execution...twice in less than half a minute

Sucks

We had better come out like our hair is on fire against Hartford and All opponents from now on

Yes have to play like mad dogs.

Mike inbounded on the first play. That was a mistake because Petras (their tallest player) was guarding the inbound and you could tell Mike could barely see over the top of him. Not exactly his fault, but the fact that he was put in that situation. The pass was to the correct person, but it was too late and a tough pass since he probably could barely see.

After that, refs went to review something. That was BS, cuz Stony Brook didn’t need to use a timeout. We immediately lost the ball, so what is their to review for so long?!

Second inbounds was pretty bad. Should have passed it to Thiam. Eugene too locked in on the guards. Needed a bigger guy as a long pass option instead of Mike just hanging out back.

Baker and Sanders were the first two options, but with no time outs left there should have been a long Court safety valve option if both were covered. If there was, we’d probably be talking about escaping with a victory.

Both botched inbounds plays were some real coaching brain farts.

If it's down to 3-4 seconds....the guy guarding me is getting kneecapped (with the ball).

That is exactly what I said last night. With the 5 seconds ticking away Mike made a very high lob pass near mid court near the sideline. Eugene could not get the handle and it went out of bounds off him. I said Mike should have tried to knock it off his defender or just pass it under the basket. Even if it was intercepted a Stony Brook guy would had to dribble the length of the floor. We just handed SB the game.

On the second inbounds fiasco, Stonybrook did not put a defender on the inbounder, so there was no one to throw the ball off of.

Maybe, and maybe not.

It may be an execution issue by the players or it may have just been a really good scouting job by Stony Brook. Those guys in the dark colored uniforms may deserve some credit here.

I haven't read or watched any post game comments about the BLOB and what RU was trying to do, so I'm just speculating here, but is it possible that the play was something that Pike had success with at Stony Brook and Stony Brook was prepared for and defended it well? Some teams spend 20 minutes of their shootaround before a game working on defending BLOBs.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't be too quick to blame the staff or the RU players. Sometimes the other team deserves some credit for stopping you from what you are trying to do.

On the Williams->Omoruyi play, I just didn't understand why Pike swapped out Thiam for Freeman in that situation. Thiam is taller and would have an easier time going up and getting a high pass, if it was necessary. Thiam is also a much better FT shooter than Freeman, if he did need to get the pass and was fouled.

Freeman should never have been a target for a pass at that point in the game, anyway - he's not a good FT shooter. Knowing that you're getting fouled if you got the ball in, we should have had our best FT shooters on the floor. Taking Thiam out was baffling there, as he was the best FT shooter on the team going into the game. Doing it to put in one of our worse FT shooters and giving up 3-4 inches of height if a lob was needed was even more confusing.

And as soon as Omoruyi fell out of bounds, Pike swapped Freeman out for Thiam again. Really odd.

As for the review, I think they were trying to get the clock right. If Omoruyi was out of bounds when he first touched the ball, then no time would have gone off the clock. if he was inbounds and then fell out of bounds, time would have ticked away.

Horrible loss. Murphy's law in place big time and the players and the coach underachieved big time but we've got to let this go. Next.
