With 7 more BIG games left and RU showing some real positive signs of life, I think we have a decent chance in four games. Although anything can happen, I am not giving us a serious chance against Purdue, Northwestern and Maryland. All three are obviously better teams and their respective records show them strong both home and away. I am using only league records for this.
So, we have the following left:
OSU with a league record of 4-7 is obviously not that great of a team but I think it will be tough since we will be playing them there. Of the four teams, I think this is the toughest one to win.
Minnesota (4-6) is pretty decent on the road with a 3-4 mark. Possible chance to win this one but may be tough.

We finish with a three game home advantage even though Maryland is one of these games. The team will not have to travel and I like that little extra comfort zone.
Michigan (4-6) is 0-6 away! So we have a less than stellar team that struggles on the road. Very good possibility!
Illinois (3-8) and 0-5 away!!!! On paper, this is our best chance for a win. This is certainly our best chance to not finish in the cellar.

I think we have a real good chance to finish at the .500 level if we can hold it together. We have teams left that are not that good. Would be a tremendous accomplishment for the new coaching staff and for going forward.

If this RU team can find a way to win 3 out of these 7 remaining games, it would be a huge boost to the program -- producing the first winning record in quite some time. It won't be easy, but it is not impossible.

here is how I would rank them easiest to hardest...

1. Illinois
2. Michigan
3. at Ohio State
4. Minnesota
5. at Northwestern
6. Maryland
7. at Purdue

I do not think RU has a shot vs Nwstern, MD, and PU, so I think only 4 the rest of the way are winnable....I think we as fans can realistically hope for 2 of these, there really is no reason RU cannot beat Illinois. Issue seems to be that RU does not play all that well at the RAC this year. Michigan and Minnesota are competing for NCAA bids so they are going to have some big incentive there but also some pressure. These are must wins for them.

I think getting to 4-14 this year is a huge accomplishment, we still will likely finish in last or 13th if Illinois tanks but this is the needed step the program needs to take.

kenpom has
1. Illinois (+1) 48%
2. Michigan (+4) 35%
3. Minnesota (+5) 31%
4. Maryland (+5) 31%
5. @OSU (+10) 18%
6. @NW (+14) 10%
7. @PUR (+19) 4%

sum them up 1.77 wins. kenpom isn't as high on MD as everyone else.

bac- very good analysis of remaining games..The struggle to move upward in league rankings will be difficult because other teams already have better talent.Recruiting in the next two years will be critical for Pikiell .The need for shooters is of the utmost importance.

Maryland seems to play up or down to the competition. Virtually all of their games are tight ones, but they win most of them.

if this year across the board has shown us something it's that anything can happen on any given night. Especially with a program in embryonic state like this, just have to go to the next game and work from there. And why no chance against MD? RU had every opportunity to be in that game in round 1.

Realistically do I expect them to beat Purdue or NW? No
But lots can happen.

Only at Rutgers can we have these threads, omg looking excited about a 16 loss year lol. Hey I get it coming from where we have been but omg. I do love our coaching staff, great staff.

One more win and Pike will have doubled our B1G win total, in one season. Another and he should get COY. A third, build a statue

I agree beating Maryland is highly, highly unlikely. But impossible, no. Just look at the Wisconsin game at the Garden. They're better than Maryland and we definitely should have won that one.

Penn State just did ... Just saying!!!

Haha. It's less stressful to accept RUs status as big 10 dormat and enjoy the gradual climb.

At 11 losses are we still a bubble team? At 20-11 do we get a look?

17-14....I think we have a shot at this. My hopeful prediction before the year....

Need a split

Illinois won at NW last night who was without their leading scorer Lindsey, who has mono.....), so winning at NW is not impossible, if he's out for an extended period of time or by the time we play at NW in a couple of weeks.....NW's schedule starts becoming much more difficult (below)

at Purdue (loss by 21
Illinois (loss at home by 5)
@ Wisconsin
Maryland
Rutgers (Saturday the 18th)
@Illinois
@Indiana
Michigan
Purdue

If Lindsey is out and they don't get one of the next 2 games at Wisconsin and home vs Maryland, they would be on a 4 game losing streak with pressure of having to win one of the next two road games after our game to stop the bleeding....

RU will need big games from Sanders and Williams to win any of the rest of the games and will need Nigel Johnson to return and provide a boost offensively as well. In both of RU's wins, Sanders had 25 points in each game and that's a lot of firepower to ask for night in and night out from Corey....someone has to take up the slack to allow him shooting range vs asking him to create 3 point shots as the lead guard.

Sanders is playing better in B1G games than OOC games, so it would not shock me to see him get 25 tonight or 25 vs Illinois and perhaps 20+ vs Minnesota as well. If so, we can pick up a couple of other W's, it will be the backcourt hitting shots and taking care of the ball.

The last 3 games are HOME games !!!

In my heart of hearts I am soooo hoping Doorson continues his improvment...[thumb2]
like a 10pts 8REBS effort
(he was 6/6 vs OSU)

and
I would LOVE to see THIAM hit a freakish 5 of 7 from the 3.....(he was 2-5 vs OSU)[thumb2]
and Omaruyi have a career game(he was 2 pts 3 REBs 1 asst 1 steal vs OSU)[thumb2]

Thiam & Omaruyi are freshmen,,,,(& Doorson may be a SOPH but its his 1st year)
commentators constantly mention Coach P says they would be red shirting on most teams
they have been asked to do A LOT.....
& they look to be gaining confidence !!!

All of this would be great but I would settle for the team shooting 70% from the foul line.

I have higher expectations:sunglasses: add that to my list LOL
and
what are you doing in Vietnam??,,great place,,i loved it

Arrived last summer for a job on a two year contract. It is a great place and I love it here. Would recommend it for a vacation for anyone. They treat Westerns like gold here in Saigon and the dollar goes a long, long, long way.

Not when I "visited" but that was in 1968/69 lol

One of my brothers was here at the same time. Up north of Hue in Quang Tri
Long Bin. At that time there were over 100,000 troops stationed there and it was billed as the words largest ammunition storage facility

Agree that if we almost beat Wisconsin why can't we beat Maryland at home?

Need ten points from Gettys for us to win a conf. game (look at past performance). Ten points takes pressure of Sanders and Williams, opens the outside just enough. That and better FT shooting.
