I’m placing Maryland on upset alert, as tomorrow is a prime opportunity for a victory! We are Maryland’s homecoming opponent, and for that, they must pay.
The itinerary calls for stopping at Pats in Philadelphia, grabbing crab cakes in Baltimore, and enjoying Victory Champagne after the game with my fellow fans.
To maximize our chances for success, we must avoid the 3 Ms, which have plagued us for most of this season.
- Mental Mistakes
- Missed Tackles
- Missed Assignments
Priority #1 tomorrow is to stop beating ourselves. The penalties, turnovers, missed assignments, and mental mistakes are killing us. 10 penalties giving up,105 yards last week is unacceptable. We’re at Game 7 so we need to see progress in significantly reducing these. Thankfully, these are things that can be corrected, so I’m optimistic that we will make progress in this area tomorrow.
Arturs season hasn’t quite turned out the way many of us expected, especially me, but he is making progress, though it hasn’t come as quickly as many of us would have liked.
Nevertheless, Art isn’t getting benched as the staff has decided to go “All In” with Artur. What’s made Arturs situation particularly tough is that his supporting cast has played poorly. The two tackles have struggled in pass protection, which is why he has been taking too many hits. The running game hasn’t been all that effective and his Receivers need to do a better job of catching the ball. Off course, Artur has made his share of high profile mistakes such as multiple pick 6’s in the Kansas game which facilitated a blowout. Hard for fans to erase mistakes like that from memory because the team went into the tank during that game.
But Artur did make progress last week in throwing for 267 yards, but it was overshadowed by his 3 interceptions. What is significant, however, is the diversity of players Artur threw too. Also, the offensive line made significant strides in pass protection, which gave Artur adequate time to deliver the ball.
Two of our receivers had breakout games. Bo Melton and Travis Vololek had 70 and 47 yards receiving, respectively. Both these guys are potential 100 yard receivers, so it was good to see them making an impact. Blackshear, Eddie Lewis and Shameen Jones continued to contribute with
Multiple catches. Arturs improvement in throwing the ball should spur the running game, which hasn’t been as effective as expected. But there have been bright spots, such as Jonathan Hillimans 32 yard run last week.
The defense actually did well on most plays last week, but those plays where mental lapses Occurred killed us. Fatigue caused by lack of depth, could be a contributing factor. Kevin Wilkins was a standout last week, notching 6 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss. He seems to be playing his way into the NFL, so hope to see similar performances.
Everybody needs to pull themselves together and deliver their best performance tomorrow. We beat Maryland last year on a pick 6 Running the ball. This year, I think we run well, pass well, and the defense does just well enough to notch the victory.
I’m gonna go with:
Rutgers 24
Maryland 21
