The TIMING of the booing was the problem, not the booing itself

If the fans knew for sure that Rettig going to the sideline meant that he was coming out of the game, they would have booed while he was coming off the field (and before Laviano came back onto the field) which would have been fine.

But because no one could be sure Rettig was out of the game until Laviano trotted back out, the boo birds let loose at that time, which I admit, seemed wrong.

It was inappropriate timing-wise, and unfair to Laviano, who was coming back on the field after completing a key pass despite taking a vicious hit on the throw.

Laviano had his best game at QB. He is not reason we lost... But fans took their frustrations of poor defense , play calling etc out on him. I've never seen so many long runs for touch downs in one game. How many long plays were made via the option without Rutgers ever adjusting? Huge holes... Fans were frustrated but Laviano did not deserve the boos today.

"Inappropriate" is too kind of a word. One has to be a complete flaming a-hole
to boo Laviano at that particular moment.
