Following the Princeton game, Rutgers hosted Fordham on October 18, 1947 and won 36-6. In the student newspaper, the Fordham Ram, was an October 3rd announcement that the new radio station WFUV-FM, “…will broadcast the home and away Ram football games this fall… The coveted sports announcing spots have been assigned to Joseph Sansone, Vincent Scully, ’49 and Raymond Rahan, ’49. The home games will be aired directly from the Polo Grounds and when the squad is on the road, Western Union will send in a play by play report, which will be relayed over the air by the campus announcer.” Starting in 1950, Scully began a Hall of Fame broadcasting career being the voice of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers for the next 67 years. Between 1975 and 1989, he worked at CBS, and then, NBC Sports broadcasting NFL games and PGA matches. The recipent of many awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was born on November 29, 1927 and died on August 2, 2022.
