Who here had Georgia State and UAB moving on beating 3 seeds. If you tell me you did, I don't believe you. Its just so hard to pick a 14 over a 3.

But the mid majors can play and if you don't play a good game you will lose. There is no more Power 5 for basketball, and maybe there hasn't been for years.

In the tournament, Its more like a top 4 or 5, a bottom 5 or 6 and everybody else in middle.

it goes to show you that perhaps the talent argument is a bit overrated. Yes when you get to the final 4 its largely about talent but what you see in the NCAA tourney is how coaches get the most out of their players, does not matter where they were rated

So much for the Big XII being the best mens hoops conference. Suk it.

If there is such a thing as a Power 5 in basketball, it's apparent that the B12 is not part of it. 0-3 at the moment if I calculate correctly. TX didn't really belong there anyway.

The fun of the NCAA has long been concentrated in the opening round, when the relatively unknown teams pull the upsets. After the opening weekend, things typically become less interesting and that is likely to be even more true this season with the final outcome pretty much predetermined.

At tournament time, the little guys have one advantage over the big guys. They have more seniors.

Been this way for quite a while. It's what makes the NCAA tournament such a great event.

I will never forget that game. We were on a golf trip with about 15 guys. Three were from Princeton and one was from Georgetown. We were all in a hotel suite watching it on TV. You can imagine it was 14-1 going crazy for Princeton. Of course nobody wants to lose their pool, but nobody picked Princeton, and who doesn't want to see a 16 beat a one in their lifetime!

Well the guy from Georgetown was sick of taking shit at how Princeton was hanging in there against Mourning and Smith from Gtown. Carrill was just a brilliant coach and Princeton was playing great.

So the guy from Georgetown said during halftime that he was sick of all our s _ _ t and that Gtown would kill them in the 2nd half and he was so sure that they would win big (semi vulgar, so be ware) he offers to Blank the three guys from Princeton if they won. (Rhymes with row.)

Now we all knew that wasn't happening, but you can imagine the further abuse the dude took while the game was coming down to the wire and it looked like Princeton would win. It was bar none the craziest atmosphere I have ever seen for a tournament game.

I have never seen a guy sweat like that in my life!

Over the years watching all these games starts to blend in with each other, but I will never forget that one!!!!!!!!!!

Just remember, Rutgers beat Wisconsin earlier this season. But that doesn't make Rutgers the better team.

Just about anyone can beat anyone else on a given night. But in the long run, the better teams win most often. It has been a long time since a non-BCS FB school didn't win the championship. Maybe Villanova can do it this year. But probably not.

In the last 20 years, UConn is the only non-BCS FB school to win the national championship (in 2004 before they joined the BE for football). And of the 80 Final Four teams in the last 20 years, only 15 have been non-P5 teams, and 5 of those 15 were UConn, and 3 others were other BE bb-only schools. That leave 7 non-P5, non-BE teams to make the Final Four out of 80 teams in the past 20 years.

While it will be interesting to see if BE/AAC teams continue the BB strength of the former BE, I'd still say there is a Power 5 in basketball.
