This is not the Rutgers I know

I don't know why you are patting Barchi on the back when he hired Hermann in the first place. And 2 he should have fired Flood "WITH CAUSE" in September. 2 months too late.

If you read Barchi's email, he basically spells out what happened. He says that he decided to fire Hermann last week. He then began looking for an interim AD to act while a national search was performed to find the best candidate. Then, on a "strong recommendation" he became aware of Patrick Hobbs. Patrick Hobbs was then offered the job on a permanent basis, and he accepted.

Barchi was hand picked by Chris Christie. Patrick Hobbs is a Christie guy, was working for Christie. So we went from national search for a qualified Athletic Director to Christie calling Barchi and telling him who to hire. You guys all see that, right? So once Christie is out of office, how useful do you think a Christie guy is in Trenton? This is nothing more than cronyism. This is Christie telling his appointee Barchi, to hire one of his other buddies. Get it?

No more national search. No more qualified candidates. Just this is the guy you get, because Barchi owes Christie. And people are celebrating it because it happened quickly.
I would have no issues with Hobbs being an interim AD, but to choose him as a permanent AD was a big mistake on multiple levels. This hire reeks of political patronage and when Democrats take over they will retaliate by putting people in place to render him useless. Not to mention reducing state appropriations to the point where Big Ten money will need to be used for purposes other than athletics. Please don't quote me on this but I believe U of Wisconsin under Govenor Scott Walker had to use Big Ten money to offset deficits in their general fund. There have been comments in the past by Steve Sweeney that since Rutgers took the medical school and now is in a position to reap the financial benefits of being in the Big Ten Trenton may slash Appropraitions and save taxpayers money.

Probably. But the easier, and possibly smarter, move by Barchi would be to kick the can down the road. But, even if delayed as you mentioned, he made decisive moves. This is all on him now. And it could blow up in spectacular fashion (this is RU - would anyone be shocked).

Really, the firings were the easy part - you just needed money, not thought or vision. The hirings will be where Barchi's name is hitched to. Will they be anchors or rising stars? Should be interesting...
