... and their talent. Haas doesn't even start for them. Think about that for a minute.

Yes I know he doesn't ALWAYS play like he did against us, but he still, on the season, is averaging over 13PG and over 5 RPG. He is 7'2" 290 LBS. with an already-NBA body. I have to believe that he would start for probably 95-98% (at least) of the Division 1 programs in America. He doesn't start for them. Yes I know, Swanigan starts, is a beast, and they don't want to play them both at the same time too much. Regardless, he's 7'2", clearly has plenty of skills... and is not even their starting center.

Simply amazing and just goes to show you that the talent gap with the B1G elite is HUGE, just like in football. It's amazing we could even keep it under 20 at their house. Speaks volumes about the efforts of our current guys and our staff.

This exactly, my friend is coaching 2 of our targets in the class on 2019, and I tell him, please let these kids know how good of a coach pikiell is, we dont have a lot of pure talent and we have had a chance to win almost every game even if we are 2-13 in conference.

Haas and Swanigan are both NBA players. Very difficult to play a team like that without somewhat matching talent. That's two NBA players surrounded by a few amazing shooters.

We did what we could and gave them a game on their home court. You could play that team 10 times and the results wouldn't be much better. If not for Nigel's hot shooting; it easily could have been much worse. 7 point game at the half and we were down by 4 in the second half and played them very tough for 28-30 minutes. When you are that overmatched, it's hard to play better.

Besides the monster size of Haas; the one thing that stuck out for me was the speed and ball movement. They pass and play in a different gear and their shots are open because of how fast the ball moves around the horn. I'm excited knowing that I will watch us play like that. That's the highest level of college hoops as far as I've watched. I'm not saying Purdue is your national champion but I am saying that I think Purdue can play with the best of the best in college basketball. On any given day, a team like Purdue can beat anyone out there.

Very good analysis of Purdue.Talented front court ,3 point shooters outside and fast ball movement make Purdue a solid NCAA team.Matchups and where they play tournament games will determine how far they advance.

When I saw/heard Haas doesn't even start .. I was baffled. That dude is a monster! Kinda looks almost as imposing and similar to how they made the Russian look in Rocky IV

We have had defensive issues when both big guys are on the court at the same time against certain lineups. Neither is particularly suited to go out and defend shooters on the perimeter. A team like Notre Dame really exposed that when they can put 5 guys out there together that can shoot. We played both of them together much of the first half against Notre Dame and they torched us in the first half and led by double digits at halftime. We sat Haas most of the 2nd half and came back and won the game.

I also think there are reasons involving fouls and our lack of front court depth that makes the decision to bring Haas in off the bench a good one for us in most games.

Which is why I think you won't miss Swanigan as much as people might think if he leaves. No doubt he will be missed on the defensive glass

Agree, but what about posters who say we are one big man or shooter away from the top teams in the B1G ?
Their big guys are really good, but with the shooters they can put out there with them, it makes them better. We definitely wouldn't have the same look or success.
