Alpha dogs are players who
1) inspire the team through their leadership and charisma
2) make plays to win games

the 2006 team had a bunch of alpha dogs
1) Ray Rice
2) Brian Leonard
3) Eric Foster
4) Devin McCourty
5) Courtney Greene
6) Devraun Thompson
7) Jason McCourty
8) Kenny Britt
9) Clark Harris

today, I look at our active roster and see one alpha dog
1) Darius Hamilton

the alpha dog recruits ran away from Flood. I can only dream about what if we had Peppers, Barkley, and David Njoku, who has developed into a MONSTER tight end for Miami.

thankfully, Ash is an alpha, so more alpha dogs are on the way in the '17 class

1). Jonathan Lewis - likely the best QB we've ever recruited
2) Bo Melton - impacts from day 1
3) Tyshonn Fogg - monster linebacker who will help establish the credibility of the unit

these are only three, and only Melton and Fogg are guaranteed to play next year. Lewis is a wait and see.

There are other recruits who might also be, but it's not apparent yet.

nevertheless, more alphas are needed, which is why this situation is a five year project.

Al--you may be on to something. what we need are playmakers , especially on defense who are active, aggressive, and through sheer force of domination can swing momentum on the field .

Al go rout for PSU, Miami or UM if you're not happy with the players effort. I'm tired of our own fans crapping on our players. We knew coming into the season we were at a talent deficit, get over it.

Harsh dude. From what I've seen, Al's the most positive poster on the board about Rutgers football.

JPO is an Alpha dog. No doubt about it.

JPO is probably playing the best on defense, but disappeared against Ohio State and Michigan. Eric Foster impacted against Top 5 Louisville at the time. JPO is a good solid player, and a defensive leader, but not an alpha in my book.

No issues whatsoever with the players effort. They're playing as hard as they can. We just don't have the horses this year, and thats fine. I understand that this is a 5 year building process.

We don't have the "horses," as you say in this post, which has very little to do with "Alphas" however. I'm sure there are plenty on the team.

There are not enough, Nuts, otherwise, we wouldn't be sitting here with only 2 wins to our credit. we've lost every winnable B1G game.
next year will be different.
