This Win is on Pike Too!

Maybe RU is more athletic and quicker.....

Maybe Indiana has guards that can play a pack-line defense but they don't have the size at guard to bother a Geo Baker.

Maybe if Indiana didn't shoot lights out from 3 in the 1st matchup, the 1st matchup would have looked like last night.

The silly stuff of one lineup being the solution tonight makes no sense.....RU controlled the game in Bloomington wire to wire and outside of a very erratic 1st 8 to 10 minutes tonight, controlled the tempo and dictated play.

And despite what matchup you want to equate this to, when Myles Johnson gets dunk after dunk and erases 5 shots in the 1st game and 7 tonight, it is the matchup with the opponent.

RU could have run any combination of lineups with Myles and Geo and Indiana does not offer an answer for either player.

Onto Nebraska and for those who ignored the results of around the rest of college basketball, the teams that needed to win, fell further off the proverbial bubble.

And for those that may have missed it.....RU is at Minnesota next Saturday at Noon, on a national broadcast on FOX.....it is the 1st national broadcast of RU basketball that has ever happened in recent memory.....that doesn't include ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, BTN, etc.

It is a big change of scenery to have RU in their final regular season B1G game, land on a national broadcast on FOX.....does that impact perception in the region.....YEP......does that mean it impacts recruiting (even in a small way.....)...?? YEP......does that mean the rebuild and job done over these last 3 years has been pretty much cemented a status that RU has arrived??? YEP......

Yea we matchup better against teams the teams that aren’t top 5/6 in conference for sure...

Has nothing to do with Top 5 or 6....Indiana beat Iowa twice because Iowa is not quick or fast enough to get past their guards and Iowa doesn't have a shot blocker, so Jackson Davis ran wild against them.

RU matches up well with Illinois because the rosters are built the same way. Ohio State is a smaller/quicker lineup and couldn't stop Michigan's frosh center, but Ohio State has the guards to handle Iowa, but doesn't have a center to stop Garza.....not sure who wins that matchup a 2nd time, but Ohio State likes that matchup.....Penn State doesn't have much size, but neither does Ohio State.....their last 2 or 3 years of matchups have been very closely played.

I believe with a fair whistle in the 2nd Iowa game, RU would matchup well....and in matchup 1, we didn't have Cliff playing.

The last week of games will see Iowa vs Michigan tonight and other top games (Illinois vs Michigan etc). How your roster is built matters and that has more to do with it than thinking Pike or something done differently mattered.

Mulcahy is wearing a mask also. It was stated it was only a precaution for Anderson as he got hit in practice. Paul has a broken nose. It was nice to see RU enjoying the game again and having fun. I feel too many people ripped into Pikiell and our players after the Maryland game. No one is perfect. We have come from being rated # 279 at the end of 2016 under Eddie to being very well respected now. Give it a rest.

That’s part of the grind in the BIG. We went through it as well. I have no sympathy for Indiana as a team but hope this kids come back from their injuries.
Yeah, I agree. We probably would have won even if both players had no issues. Just noting that Greene pointed out a factor that no one else had, and that did it did play into an analysis of the win. That's all. It was a great win, and a big relief.

Hopefully he keeps this lineup and playing minutes in tact the rest of the way. This was by far the best rotation we've seen.

Coaches success or failure are largely dependent on players ability to score and defend for extended periods of time. The first 13-15 minutes of the game Rutgers looked as bad as in the Maryland game. Then magic happened with a deluge of made 3 pointers.and Indians became the team with no answers.

To me this is spot on. The magic is psychological and the coach is a huge part of building the psychi and instilling the mentality that produces the magic. That started immediately after the Maryland game.

It's winning time! Magic time! RUTGERS TIME!!!

You gotta be kidding. The title of this thread includes the word “too.” Nobody is minimizing the importance of 3-pointers dropping finally, but coach deserves credit too, because after 0fer 10 on treys he kept encouraging the guys to hustle and not get down and must’ve told them to keep shooting from deep. Pike’s confidence in his players paid dividends.

He taught Mathis how to catch a ball on a full sprint and throw it down 11 feet in the air.

He retaught Ron had to shoot from 3

He worked with Jacob’s lateral quickness and has continued giving him adhesive stars for his effort hounding opposing 1s
So we can kill him when his substitutions are not working but when they are we should not speak about them. Got it. How about awesome job by the players making the plays and Pike putting the right combinations on the court

My point has been people were wrong for all the blame he got.

We said that 6 games ago about a different lineup.

Spot on. What seemed different was the substitution patterns in the second half. He blended guys in and out of the rotation more rather than suddenly subbing in and out full 3-4 guys at once.
