Three Spots Open Now...

Rutgers is desperate for players that can come in and be productive right away. With guaranteed playing time its still like pulling teeth to get anyone to commit this spring. The signing period starts next week.

It was said that on twitter. To be honest hype, it's great that you post here, but everyone has access to the same information as you if they have an internet connection.

Maryland stopped in to see laurent. I found that on the internet.

To be honest Higgins3 it's not great that Hype posts here. He has become an angry, bitter pill who just craps on the program and this board has more than it's fair share. People need to quit playing up to him; he has lost his relevance.

From internet search:

Laurent also said that Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia have recently
been in contact. Offers previously came in from Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech,
Tennessee and UCF. http://247sports.com/Bolt/Laurent-looking-at-Rutgers-35963608

Hey Hype, nice to see you back.

I think the one piece that you were missing with Laurent was that he was good friends and classmates with Jonathan Pollock, a LB in football committed to us that him and his family absolutely and completely adore our university and are very public about it. He was recruiting him hard so that they can stay together in college.

I think it's pretty nuts that it took our football recruit to land a basketball player. I'm not bitter but very frustrated. It took a while for flood to grow on me but he has. Thats so far away with eddie right now. I had some excitement coming into this season but that disappeared quickly. I'm also a believer in the Hurleys but not so much Danny. I was really hoping we would make a strong push for Bobby but we dont we have the money or interest in taking risk right now.

Eddie and Shoes went to see Freeman on March 31st.

Would love to get this guy.

I think our expectations are so low right now that any commit is seen as a positive right now. Laurent seems like a solid enough kid but realistically the kids that Eddie has brought in are not the type that's going to be able to legitimately compete for a NCAA bid in the Big 10

I ask what are the goals and expectations right now...Is it getting to .500 in his last year so we can hire a new coach or is it just letting Eddie coach another year or two and then moving on. I think at best we can hope Eddie can get us to near 500 in his 4th or 5th year and then bring a new young hungry guy in to sell the program. The recruiting momentum is virtually non existant currently. That window almost every new hire gets with some recruiting buzz seems to have come and went with little fanfare.

I dont think a football kid recruited him. Ej shoes and macon went down to see him 2-3 times. Is bobby hurley going to asu good or bad from freeman?

Players from every sport help recruit talent that went to the HS they went to or just know, that happens between players of the same sport or a different one and shouldn't be considered as the main reason a school gets a kid to commit.
But as part of a process when a school tries too show they will be a good fit for the kid in an effort to get him to commit.
The main work is done by an assistant along with the HC's involvement , and the HC as to close the deal.

My opinion:Bobby Hurley going to ASU will have his dad recommending top NJ talent go there, like he's recommending the NJ almost top talent and their coaches that he talks to, but not really top program material, look at URI and Buff, if those kids don't get offered by the top programs.
Bobby might get a few down the road, but will have to prove himself a winner at ASU to get East Coast talent to become Sun Devils. I look for JC players to be used to jump start ASU MBB and that might hurt Rutgers efforts to pull in a JC player.
But don't count out Lavin if Hurley's Aruba vacation takes longer than the ASU AD likes.
ASU wants to name a HC ASAP and might go to #3 (Lavin or the UCLA assistant in my opinion ) if Bobby doesn't decide soon.

Great work as always,mad.

Thanks for insight.

I agree-seems like getting players from St Ants to go to ASU would be tough, but if results are there, who knows. 18-24 kids in arizona,65 + average temp with 5 swimming pools, could be an easy sell.

How do you feel about Freeman getting here?Do you think there is a chance?Again, if freeman and ellison came here, I would happily bring over 2 pies from PJ's to the RAC. That would be unreal.

higgins > first of all: I only have opinions (my best guesses) based on what I read and/or think about an issue
what might happen. I don't consider myself having insight, only making good guesses and try to ignore the not so good ones

I think ( without inside info) there's a great chance Freeman will pick Rutgers because of the full court press RU
is putting on him and how he probably knows : he'll be a main ( if not the main) part of Rutgers offense, showcasing his O talent.
Will have to beat out Minny and Maryland to land Ellison and don't know if Jordan can convince Malik's dad ()Pervis) that RU is the right fit for his son ,with the facilities RU has and how the MBB program lacks the support to make it into a top program.

No problem.Your post are always great.

I see what you're saying with Freeman. He would be traveling a long way but would get instant playing time.I like DJF improvement. With time next year, i could see him being a 6-10 ppg, 6 rebounds type of player.

Freeman would give our 14+ win season next year a chance.

Wouldn;t the fact that Maryland looked at him be a negative given the fact that they didnt offer him a spot.

Freeman although playing for Hutchinson in Kansas is from North Carolina. One of the Johnsons I believe is from North Carolina as is Charles Minlend.

Fig, it's either a)they're stacked already or b) they didn't want him. Nonetheless, he is about as best we can get. Who else was out there that was a reasonable get?

A lot of other schools looked at him and passed. Florida hoops website really likes him. If EJ can get the players moving in transition next year, we will be able to score 8-10 points there. Sanders, Daniels, Laurent, Williams-fast players.

Best game came against one of the best schools in the country. I like that.
