Thurs Night Pitt VT game thread...what better way to

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer
This is how poorly Pitt played in the first quarter: two turnovers, zero first downs, six total plays, 12 total yards and four penalties. The Panthers defense has bailed the offense out, as Virginia Tech leads 6-0.

our attendance hasnt been so hot this year especially in first quarters, I would rather have a winning team than full stadium anyhow yet why do RU fans make fun of other schools attendance, dont get that.

This.
After losing 5 games in a row let's see how we draw against Indiana in 9 days.
I bet we don't have an "real " attendance of 30,000 in the stadium .
Forget that announced BS attendance.

I miss the Thursday night games. More fun then nooners. Pitt, Louisville, etc.

money aside..I couldn't agree more. night's were electric and we had a national night and we tended to show up.
but then again did I mention the $$$ ?

Yeah the big 10 noon games are not doing it for me.

I'd take the chance against Tennessee v Jacksonville. Pitt v Va Tech entertaining.

1) PI in this game is way too inconsistent
2) How has Narduzzi not earned at least a sideline warning? Dude is on the field doing his best Harbaugh impression every play.

That attendance looks terrible. They're a 5-2 team playing a ranked team and they have less than 30k. Our attendance is poorer than its been in a long time but it's still probably better than Pitt's.

Does Pitt have a small fanbase? The Steelers have a huge fanbase you would think the majority supports Pitt as well.

I see you have anointed him the savior! He needs to WIN some games, show he can LEAD the team, and instill confidence in the rest of the team. Until then he is unproven.
To be fair, he did lead them on a 4th qtr drive that gave RU the lead.

Didn't see the field again until 6 secs to go.

Why not? For Whitebus: I would rather a B1G Thursday night game than a B1G nooner on Saturday! Bigger no brainer!!!

Most B1G teams are not going to want give up a Saturday home game for a Thursday night game. Football weekends in the B1G are events and for most of the B1G we see it as there are only 7 opportunities a year for these events. The tailgating, the seeing friends and classmates you don't otherwise see anymore. The game is the showcase but the weekend is the event and that's what makes CFB special. Maybe it's the essence of the difference between a college town and pro town.

Maybe a Thursday night game works well for the pro town model as it fits into your schedule better? I don't know. I just don't think you'll see Thursday night B1G games any time soon.

To add:
I'm pretty sure there aren't any Thursday night SEC games for the same reasons. I can't think of one SEC university in a pro town. The ACC on the other hand is littered with universities in pro town.

Maybe but what the hell does that have to do with anything?

None of that has zero to do with the Pitt/VT game.

That's precisely why noon starts for RU are so difficult for RU attendence because RU games because of our Geography are not weekend events but rather game day events. So Thursdsay night games actually for many are in fact easier and certainly more fun.

Not buying your "pro town" argument. B1G is littered with just as many "pro town schools" as the ACC. Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland and RU spring to mind.

In a way you just made my argument. RU and MD are new memebers and doubled the number of pro towns in the conference. I don't see the traditional B1G members moving games to Thursday for your benefit. Potentially you or UMD will get a Thursday home game against a non-con at the beginning of the season.

Purdue, Indiana aren't tearing it up attendence wise either. Why not tRy? Lotta fun! RU Knight game lore. B1G Network wants content. I would bet its coming.

If they are going to move a home game to god awful Yankee Stadium then we can move a game to Thursday Knight!

And before the B1G there were threads before every Thursday night game complaining that it's a week night and I have to get up for work, it's a week night and I work late, it's a Jewish holiday and I can't be out after sundown, my kid is tired; I left early and best of all, I can't wait till we're in the B1G so we don't have to play Thursday night games.

It doesn't matter when or where they schedule games there will always be fans who complain about it on this board, some more consistently than others. I say if you can't make it and have a good time give up the seats to someone who wants to be there and quit complaining.

RU fans invented and perfected the art of whining about basically everything about our program. Once that is understood, this board is a lot easier to read.

Thursday night games are so Big East. I'm not suggesting we were too good for the Big East...we never were... but it wasn't a true football conference.

The best time slot in college football remains 3:30 PM on Saturday afternoon. The 8 PM Saturday games lose the casual audience of people who still go out and do stuff on Saturday nights.
