Thurs Night Pitt VT game thread...what better way to

As soon as the B1G decides it's profit ale there will be Thursday night games. I agree they won't start with Michigan or OSU but you can be sure Maryland and RU will be test dummies. This next contract is huge And it's gonna demand lots of live content. If USC can play on a Thursday night than so can we

The only times I'd be ok with playing a Thursday night game is an away or neutral site game the first game of the year or an away game following a bye week. No home game though.

I realize my opinion doesn't mean squat in the big picture but it's kind of the same way you guys feel about playing in Yankee stadium

This. Last night the PAC12 had a big game on at 7;30 p.m. PST--USC v. Cal. The announcers were saying how important the Thursday night games were to the conference and getting viewers.
What is better for overall viewing numbers- to have 3 or 4 B1G noon games going on at the same time competing for viewership, or spreading out the time slots so that there are more viewing times to watch different B1G football games?
One downside of Thursday night games is scheduling. Cal's coach was moaning about the poor scheduling by the PAC12 and how his team was playing with inadequate rest and recovery time.

I like the Thursday night games. Noon does not do it.

That will be fail..two bad schools with mediocre attendence figures.

So why not try to improve them?? I will bet an RU v Maryland Thursday night game will outdraw a RU v Maryland nooner. They have already messed with the game moving it to Yankee Stadium. Why not give it a shot. Illinios, Purdue, Minny, NW, Indy Maryland and RU could try for some attendance boosts. Its coming. Makes more sense than three games at 12:00 like this Saturday.

PAC 12 did it last night with USC! Football royalty!!

Just curious, Pitt has a decent team this year and played a spirited game in a losing effort against V-Tech. Why the poor attendance? Is the stadium far from campus? Also, the stadium looks much much bigger than ours, do the Steelers also play in this stadium?

Tough loss for Pitt.
Didn't watch any of the game but just read up on it.

I could care less if Pitt loses the rest of their games except for their last one in November.
They must beat Syrapuke.

Blaise they care about attendance. It's live programming and will make them more than anything playing on BTN or Fox Sports right now. Watch our 2019 game against Miami be a Thursday night

Their attendance is usually pretty rough but as someone pointed out, it is either pre game or halftime...

Most B1G teams are not going to want give up a Saturday home game for a Thursday night game. Football weekends in the B1G are events and for most of the B1G we see it as there are only 7 opportunities a year for these events. The tailgating, the seeing friends and classmates you don't otherwise see anymore. The game is the showcase but the weekend is the event and that's what makes CFB special. Maybe it's the essence of the difference between a college town and pro town.

Maybe a Thursday night game works well for the pro town model as it fits into your schedule better? I don't know. I just don't think you'll see Thursday night B1G games any time soon.

To add:
I'm pretty sure there aren't any Thursday night SEC games for the same reasons. I can't think of one SEC university in a pro town. The ACC on the other hand is littered with universities in pro town.

Or just in-town. Teams in Miami, Pittsburgh, Boston, Atlanta, etc., perhaps the weeknight model works, you go see the game after work (at least in theory). In the Big 10, the game is a weekend event as you indicate.

For the record I liked the 1:30 kickoff we had in the era before games were televised.

Doesn't stop ESPN from having ACC match ups every Thursday night.
And thank God we're not in the ACC being run by ESPN and underpaid!
There is nothing the Big Ten can gain by playing in Thursday night.
Thursday night games in the Big East were great. It was a chance to highlight Rutgers in order to get out of that shitty conference. Since we hit the jackpot and made it to the Big Ten Rutgers has nothing to gain by playing a weeknight college football game. Leave Thursday night to the wanna be's and all the crappy conferences

Like the PAC 12 and Cal and USC? Like the ACC? 2/5 of P5. Winter is coming! Thursday is coming!

- great game but VT should have destroyed them. Left 12 points on the field in the 1st quarter. I swear they ran the same 4 plays the entire 1st half.

- horrific officiating. At least 3 WR's were dragged by their jersey in front of zebras, prior to the ball reaching them, with no calls.

- one of the best catches of the year...and here's why....that ball was touched, by my count, 9 different times on that play as the 2 were falling to the ground. For him to come up with it cleanly - which he did - was amazing. The WR actually smacked the ball at one point, trying to get it away from the defender, and was somehow able to control it with his body after doing so while on the ground. Crazy.

- Pitt, like the rest of the world, has a big freakin' band

- so much better than the crap the NFL has had on Thursday nights this year

It was a great game to watch last night! VA. Tech amassed 564 yards of total Offense on 29 1st downs. 406 in the air. Very uncharacteristic of a Narduzzi Defense. But give his red zone Defense all the credit for holding Va. Tech to 6 field goals otherwise it's a blowout. Looking forward to Navy and South Florida tonight. I'll go with the Midshipmen getting 6.

USF scores immediately to go up 7-0. That being said, WOW, I thought there were a lot of empty seats at Shirley last week! You'd think USF was 0-8 not 6-2!

I'll take a Thursday night home game each season vs. playing each and every Safurday at that wonderful start time of 12:00pm . Also being the only nationally televised CFB game on a Thursday night vs. the other 30 games on each Saturday gives great exposure to the program.

Am I the only one who finds this, well, corny?

U. S. F. instead of USF on the unis?

BTW - noticed a lot last night (several "superman on my chest" moves) and again tonight, during the USF game (not Navy kids, obviously...), a lot more "show boating" in the NCAA this season. Stuff that would have been flagged, easily, 2 years ago not as much anymore.

Well you a freaking idiot because the only way that is happening is if Rutgers never made the Big Ten. When fully vested Rutgers will be pulling in twice the ACC teams. And 20 times the AAC. The stupidity on this board never ends.
Exposure against the NFL in Thursday?? You are dumb.

exactly right..no one is watching Rutgers-Minnesota when the NFL is on. some of our fanbase lives in some sort of altnerate universe where they thing the college football world deeply cares about watching Rutgers on national tv...its not 2006 anymore

Exactly. As Rutgers fans we had at best 3 great Thursday games. 2 against Louisville and one against USF. They were great games NOT because they were Thursday but they were national ranking games. Some of you have to turn the page and get back to reality.

RU v Pitt? Ask the students what they prefer? 7:30- 8:00 Thursday night or Noon on Saturday. Those in denial refuse to recognize Knight games!

People here were complaining about being in rinky dink conferences with no future, being on ESPN 8/CBS Sports Network, and no money are now complaining of being on Traditional B1G Noon games. There's a reason why the Big 10 is the BIG 10 while Butler and DePaul plays for the Big East Conference title every year now.

We all love the B1G and are well aware of the noon games. Not complaining but hoping with the PAC 12 playing Thursday Knights that the B1G will do the same. Just would enjoy those games more than the noon starts.

Take your immature, assine insults and crawl back into your hole.
We get some real jackasses on this Board.

If you want Thursday night games go root for an AAC or ACC team
Most of us are beyond thrilled to be in the Big Ten!

Are you that immature you have insult Rutgers fans and their views ?
What a tool.

Wow, some of the responses are abrasive and nasty. Can't people have opposing views without tearing each other down. For those on this site that think we are keeping 100% of the additional revenue once we become a full B10 member better start thinking differently because it's not happening. Just sit back and watch the war that will ensue with Trenton and RU. By the way I'm not making any of this up, this is actually coming directly from entrenched insiders from Trenton.

Do you think the Michigan or Michigan State fans were crying like a baby about playing a noon game today?
