I know many of our fans hate them and there is some belief they are below the B1G but it's become a huge night for college football. This Thursday has an ACC game, a big12 game, and a PAC12 game as well as some mid majors. Two of the P5 games have ranked teams and I'd bet most thought oregon ASU would be a top 15 matchup. Personally, I love Thursday night game and look forward to the B1G catching on.

Agree! I guess it's not great for tailgating and having to work the next day. However, I would LOVE having 1 Thursday night game every year.

This. NFL steals the show. I mean id rather watch a MAC game over the NFL but not the rest of the US.

Last Thursday the NFL (Seattle at San Francisco) got a 5.9 on CBS and 1.1 on NFL Network for a 7.0 total rating. Cal at UCLA got a 0.4 rating. Temple at ECU and Georgia Southern at Appalachian State got less than a 0.3 and were not in the top 100 cable shows / telecasts for the night. So despite the NFL game being on CBS, the NFL Network telecast earned a better rating than the 3 college games on the ESPN networks combined.

It's made for TV viewing to fill in time slots. I'll watch, but would rather not go in person. Some very good games this Thursday. Pluses are the team has a weekend off, the coaches can go to high school games. Negative is the class room disruption and strain on the body to take a pounding only 5 days after your previous game.

We are in the Big Ten. We play at Noon, 3:30, and 8pm on Saturdays. Weekdays are for academics, practice, and university life.

As long as a live game brings in better ratings than BTN live reruns we are going to see them soon on BTN.
You did not see the rating posted above? They are not switching Saturday games for a .something rating on Thursday

Call me a traditionalist, but I find the Saturday night games obnoxious enough. The B10 is meant to kick off at noon. 3:30 became a modern times necessity for TV revenues.

Thursday night games were a good push for us to expand our brand and prove to the B10 that we can draw an audience on ESPN.

Personally, I would not look forward to the conference going that route or being a part of the regular rotation (as we would be due to our ability to draw eyeballs).

I wouldn't expect any Thursday night games on the BTN. That would really surprise me.

I do however expect Thursday night games on ESPN for the B10. All the other P5 conferences have them including the SEC and I'm sure it will be part of the negotiations in the new tv contract. It's not like it's going to be every week but I could see about 2-3 B10 games a year being put on ESPN Thursday.

The networks are paying the big bucks and in return the conferences are going to place games where the networks want them. All that money isn't coming without strings. How often did we see primetime home games for Michigan/ND and now we've seen them. Same for these Thursday night games for the P5 conferences. You don't just get to cash the checks without giving something in return.

I think you are wrong. Excluding opening Thursday night, here are the Thursday night games televised on the SEC Network:

And here are the games televised on the Pac-12 network:

True, the SEC network televised Western Kentucky at Vanderbilt on opening Thursday and the Pac-12 network televised UTSA at Arizona the same night. But that day has the most games of any other Thursday night because it kicks off the season.

Thursday night games are the domain of ESPN, CBS Sports Network, and Fox Sports because they have paid to televise most, if not all, of the games for the conferences. It is either show them on Thursday night or eat the game because of all the games they have the rights to cannot be televised on Saturday. The conference networks will not have that problem unless they lose the general sports networks (such as ESPN).

Ok, they might not be on BTN but as someone stated above, they will definitely be part of our next TV contract.

yes, I saw the ratings posted above. Aren't there a number of saturdays each year where BTN has multiple games on at noon with coverage broken down by region? Do you think some regional game will still do better than a nationally televised Thursday night game?

I enjoy Thursday night games, as long as someone else is playing. I want no part of Ohio State playing Thursday nights during the season.

I would think most agree with the FIFY version.

I don't think you'd ever see OSU/Michigan on Thursday night probably not PSU either. The rest in the B10 including Nebraska/Wisconsin/Iowa are all possible candidates IMO.

Love the Thursday night games and believe they are a coming. The idea that noon games on Saturday are the be all and end all is just silly.

I love that my Gamecocks traditionally play the FIRST Thursday game. The eyes of almost all cfb fans (and recruits) are on you - for good or bad. We've only lost one of them, but that A&M beatdown in 14 hurt - badly.

When my two daughters were very active in club sports (soccer, swimming, softball), I loved Thursday night games because it didn't interfere with anything except maybe practices. Now that my youngest will be off to college next year, I'm not loving Thursday night games as much.

I want no part of it. I didn't enjoy them when we were in the BE. Watched few, never attended one. I didn't even get to watch the Pandemonium game in '06 because I was traveling for work that night.

Please, let's play on Saturdays like grown-ups.

ACC, Pac12, Big12, and SEC all play Thursday games. As dies the NFL....guess we are the only grown ups?
