Here's what I know about FSU:

- Current record is 5-0 with next game at Rutgers.

- Their opponents: Beat GW by 20; Beat Fordham by 24; Beat Colorado State by 17; Beat Kennesaw State by 19 and beat Citadel by 35. Hence no close games so far.

- All games have been home except for Fordham and Colorado State which occurred in the Jamaica Tournament.

- Similar to our schedule, none of their opponents are world beaters as GW's talent level is not what it was from several years ago.

- Scary stat about FSU is their offense to date via Points scored: 87; 67; 90; 98 and 113. They score and they score a lot which to me indicates they play a very uptempo pace.

- Their FG % after their first 4 games was 53% - pretty damn good.

- They have 5 players who average between 10 and 16 points - thus they are quite balanced - with Terrance Mann being their leading scorer at 16 PPG.

- Leonard Hamilton is their HC who has been there for an incredible 16 years and he is no stranger to the RAC as he used to be the HC of Miami when Miami was in the Big East.

- For us to win on Tuesday - which won't be easy (as I expect us to be about a 7-10 point underdog) - is to slow the tempo down; play a half court game; play solid defense and keep the score low. We cannot get into a up and down game with these guys.

Go RU!

I have only seen FSU against Citadel and they chuck up a lot of threes. They didn't seem to play intense defense. They seem more concerned about scoring. I think Rutgers intensity on defense can give them problems. Just as you said slow it down into a half court game and it's Rutgers advantage.

FSU made 36.8 percent of their three pointers against The Citadel. One kid was 7-of-11.

Defensively FSU is ust so much bigger and longer than The Citadel players. The Citadel probably had difficulty seeing over them and trying to run their sets.

The Citadel was held to 32.5 percent shooting on two-point FGA.

No one has noted that FSU will be without their startIng center Koumadje who is 7-4, and will play a freshmen in his place. They may also be missing five star freshman guard MJ Walker, who turned his ankle in the last game. He had scored 12, 0, 22, and 11 in their first four games.

I was going to mention that. It's going to have a huge impact on the game. FSU, like Rutgers, goes deep into the bench. That is something to keep an eye on especially in the second half.

Actually ...I think it's a NECESSITY that we selectively run ...we certainly can't get in a track meet with them, but slowing it down and hoping for us to shoot to get a win seems like a low percentage receipe for us to win and, more likely, for us to come out short end until we prove that we can score

Look for us to play our game and letting the guards have their first 7-10 seconds to create. We need success here badly to get cheap points and to get the flow on offense faster playing playing against bigger and faster guys and get them oh their back heels on the half courts

I think we need those points badly

And i think we get enough of them

Rutgers 66
Florida state 62

Gotta slow it down and take care of the ball.
I don't think Rutgers has to slow it down at all in fact I think that would be a mistake.

What they need to do is play superb transition defense and slow down Florida State. Rutgers needs to play at the pace that they want to play.

Against DI opponents Rutgers is averaging 67.4 possessions per game play. If they slow it down and only get, say, 62 possessions against FSU it will be difficult the score more than 65 points. That is unless Rutgers hits a large number of 3-pointers and or gets to the free throw line and sheets more than 77% there. It's highly unlikely that you beat Florida State scoring in the low 60s. That is unless FSU just craps the bed

Agree that we need to run selectively, but it's also key in those situations to get back on D very quickly, even after a made shot. They haven't seen a defense as good as ours yet, so should be an interesting match-up. Would love to win this one.

More plays equal more offensive rebounds - a strength.

One of the keys to the game will be handling Florida State full court trapping defenses which results in turnovers and easy baskets.I think it will be a grind out ugly shooting game with the final score for the winner in the 65-70 point range.Rutgers must make their foul shots to stay in the game and possibly win .

I agree with this assessment.

We can't win a high-paced shootout with these guys. We have to run selectively but otherwise not be forced to play at their pace.

And we must take care of the ball. Can't afford any of Corey's obligatory lazy passes to the wing that get picked off and returned for easy layups or dunks.

Just remember, if we win, it doesn't mean we're necessarily going dancing (even Jordan's team beat top 10 Wisky) and if we lose, it doesn't mean we're only getting to 12 wins. It's a single game - an important one to measure our performance, for sure, but it's still just one game.
