I will interrupt my retirement planning and sailboat buying to return for this one thought.

It's time for Rutgers football fans to admit that they're lost in codependency, find a shelter for battered women and put an end to the "maybe he'll change" perspective on Greg Schiano.

He's not going to change. He micromanages his teams, he doesn't allow his assistants to exercise their individual skill sets, he's focused way too much on Look & Feel and not enough on action. Too much Strategic Vision and not enough "let's just win the f*cking game".

Many will disagree, but many will also agree - Greg is a classic "high floor, low ceiling" kind of guy. If you want to pay someone $6 million a year to get you 6 wins, then hey - I'm cool with that. It's not my money anymore, my emotional investment was cashed out years ago, I really no longer care. I'm old and cranky enough to know that I'm too old and cranky to continue bearing the cross of Rutgers football.

There is always a brighter side. And if, starting next year, any of you want to spend winters sailing tropical seas, hit me up. Space is limited and priority will be given those who are younger, cuter and more female than me.

Peace out, my brothers.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I thought he would change because I wanted to believe he learned from Urban. He is the same old Greg. He righted the ship and steadied the program after ash burned it to the ground but he will never get us over the top.

Peace out,
Shelby beat you to this keen conclusion by 5 years. He’s a nobody that nobody else would hire. But our moronic fans and boosters got who they wanted creating the steaming shit pile Schiano team you’ll see until 2030 or longer

Coach Schiano dominated Deshaun Foster at BIG Ten Media Day. It was a blowout of epic proportions.

GameDay today though.... different story.

Good to hear from you. Been meaning to reach out and see how you’re doing.

So…do we have to actually be biologically female? Or can we just self-identify as young, cute, and female to get on the boat? I cut out from watching the game early and cheered myself right up by taking a spin up to see the crowd at the Hunt in Far Hills. You would’ve enjoyed it, I think, despite it being on dryland.

Well, it's inarguable that women make the sailing better. It frees us from the responsibility of being galley slaves - or worse.

I did 8 days in the Med over the summer, out of Marseilles, on a big 'ol Lagoon cat. 4 men, 3 women. The women took it upon themselves to clean all 4 heads on the boat, twice a day. None of the so much as touched a line for the entire week, but it's a fair trade-off.

For myself, I'm strongly leaning toward a Beneteau 393. There's plenty of them on the market, the trick is to find one that isn't an ex-charter boat.

Peace o
Most of the teams look Ike they are in synch are working smoothly together. We do not. Why not is on the coaches. FB requires the x coordination of 11 guys at. The same moment. High school teams don't look smooth and neither do bad college teams. RU has to get its act together or this year will end like too many previous ones. Not happily

Lots of truth in this. Appreciate the post and your thoughts. Hope all is well!

His defense has parted like the Red Sea this season.

The thing that really leaves me flat is the multiple decade problem running a competent red zone offense.
Media published about it a few weeks ago and media was publishing about it when Rice, Teel, Underwood and Britt were at RU.

I was looking at a dude's twitter and he mentioned it about RU v Ohio St last year. Red zone is a constant problem, and if a team has a crummy red zone offense every year then its not the players.

Playing "not to lose" works when Ed Reed + HOF players are on your defense but it doesn't work at RU.
GS has to trash the crummy "prevent offense" that misses on score attempts to avoid turnovers

"Rutgers had a strong start to the second half, opening with a five-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to cut its deficit to 21-16, then forcing its first three-and-out of the contest. The Scarlet Knights followed up with another promising drive that fizzled out in the red zone, leading to a 34-yard field goal" https://archive.ph/MtCU5#selection-537.0-537.305

Notes: Rutgers bombs in red zone

Overall, the offense managed 511 yards, with Ray Rice recording the 21st 100-yard game of his career with 116 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

"Statistics mean nothing," head coach Greg Schiano said. "Playing the game and winning the game, that's what it is about. "We need to figure it out quickly. We put up 500 yards of offense and can't score when you get in the red zone? That's an issue."

It never gets consistently better. GS isn't a bad coach - he just keeps banging his head of the wall with lame offensive strategy. One year RU can pass but not run, another year it can run and not pass. RU will never be the Hurricanes

I flew from Florida to see the scene once again. Beautiful day, bad team
Thought two weeks ago you'd have a game in Orando. NAW.

I went to both the Washington and UCLA games this year, it was my first time attending RU games in about 10 years, brought both of my kids and had a great time at each game, the boardwalk is a great attraction and the overall tailgate beforehand was enjoyable, much better than the over the top drunkenness experienced at an NFL game.

The game day experience and everything about the campus is night and day from the last time I attended a game (I think during the Flood era?). IMO as an outsider that would like to see the program succeed, Greg brings a certain “big time” feel to the program that I can’t imagine another coach doing. Like it or not “marketing” is a big factor in if a program can succeed or not, and Greg gets an A+ here even if many of the gameday issues Greg experienced during the Big East days are still present.

I don’t think there is another option for RU. $6m per year is not going to get you much on the open market, any other coach worth that is going to go to a program where the battle isn’t as uphill, and overpaying for a random first time head coach or first time B1G head coach doesn’t make them better than what they actually are. Schiano is the only coach that is persistent and dedicated enough, and understands all of the challenges in coaching RU to make it run effective enough to challenge for bowl eligibility in a stacked conference and I think eventually have a “special” 9+ win year at some point. You guys have to realize you are in a league with the heaviest hitters in the sport. UCLA has serious money and they were sitting at 1-5 yesterday, that says it all. My alma mater struggles to get 7 wins in the Big XII, I think we were all spoiled by a forgiving Big East that allowed all of us to ascend higher than our level for a brief period.

UCLA has serious money issues.
