Because this defense isn’t stopping anyone. If we’re going to go down, let’s at least make it fun. Time to go 4 and 5 receivers wide. Duff, Strong, Black, Dremel, and Miller can all Ball. Dremel and Duff are better than our opponents 4th and 5th DBs. No more rock fights. Let’s aim to score 40 -50 points. We opened up the offense in 2008, and it paid dividends, and landed us in a bowl game. The same can happen this year.

Athan threw for 313 yards vs USC. He can throw for 300-400 yards against each of our remaining opponents.

Opening the Offense is playing to our strengths. Duff and Black have grown up, and are ready to go. Have to get better at converting red zone opportunities.

On defense, let’s go man-man. Too many times, kids are confused as to their assignment, and receivers are running free. UCLA caught us. USC caught us. This cannot continue if we are to be successful, and our remaining opponents don’t have the athletes USC has, so it’s an opportune time to be more aggressive. Let’s get it!

If we’re going to go down, might as well go down swinging.

Can’t be any worse than what we’ve seen the last few weeks. Like you said at least it may be entertaining, because watching this offense is boring and painful. It’s great seeing KM run like a madman when your D is playing well but when we can’t stop sh*t it’s a whole other story

How was your visit with your roommate?
Thx for asking. It was great. He brought his son along and we had fun, catching up after 30 years. Rutgers Fund threw an awesome pregame tailgate which everyone enjoyed. Best attended Rutgers tailgate I’ve ever seen.

Al, can you be OC and DC at same time and donate your $3mil salary to NIL?

Hail Mary ! Hail AL !!

Sad state of affairs if even AL is throwing up Hail Mary’s!

My roommate freshman year became a friend for life. We lived fairly close after graduation and our daughters also became friends. Funny, back then you basically filled out a little index card with your interests that they used to match roommates in the freshman dorms. Worked pretty good. Sadly he passed a few years ago way too young. Glad you made the connection!

Al …

On the defense , it’s not we are playing a complex defense …we are playing a SOFT defense…take a hard look at where our safties are, and how often we blitz (and the blitz are freaking telegraphed )…..

Haven’t you repeatedly said we are a running offense. That’s who we are and who HC Schiano is.

4 and 5 WRs?
Sounds like you want to replace HC Schiano if you want the offense to radically change.

Let’s play press man and see what happens. This can’t go on like this.

We have to evolve based on our situation, and attack more of the field.

Al, is that what your friends with rings suggest? Get better ideas ya terd

We threw more long balls vs USC than we have in any other game. Miller is plenty fast enough and gets open. Hit those and our scoring points go up dramatically.

I do not see how our defense could get any more simplified. We basically either run man or a deep zone.

It looked to me like a soft zone, and I would like to see more press man to avoid instances like this where it seemed like someone missed an assignment.

Your unbridled optimism is refreshing, but I don't see Schiano changing his offensive philosophy.

I’m not sure the passing offense is going to look like it did against USC in the remaining games. USC had their top 4 DBs out against RU. They were playing a lot of off coverage and there were some busts. I agree with simplifying the defensive scheme. There are too many coverage busts because some are confused if they are in zone or man coverage. I’m not sure if that’s a coaching or personnel issue. The 2nd and 3rd levels of the defense seems to be out of position or confused too often.

The problem with the defense, like the problems with the offense, is that there is very little disguise or deception. Every opponent knows exactly what RU is doing and how to attack it. That, combined with the drop off between the starters and the backups, and the general lack of fundamentals, has led to the poor performance we've seen this season. You can only get away with being predictable when your players are better.

If we’re going to go down, might as well go down Does Open up have the same meaning as Try to Find?

It was very evident in the UCLA, flagrant in the USC game. You can live with kids getting beaten. But opposing WRs roaming around uncontested is unacceptable. I think people are having trouble understanding their assignment when we play the soft zone.

True. The idea that Dremel and Miller cant be on the field at the same time was always absurd. See how much better the passing attack has been since Dremel has forced coverage on himself with good route running, letting Miller better operate.

Likely true but they have played Dremel last few weeks so the initial measurables thought was reconsidered, and credit for that. Think we will see the same with Wright over Walker.

If Schiano could get away with it, he would go more conservative, run the ball every play, and hope each team only gets 1 possession per half.

Have you yet concluded if this is still (or not) the best RU team ever assembled?
