If we go out and get routed by PSU in front of 30k nits fans in our own house, it will be a very tough pill to swallow. I will hope for the absolute most we can expect....a well played, competitive affair.

getting beat by a team that is very clearly more talented and a bigger program than us and beats up on us basically every year isn’t a nadir.

But GS should’ve bought the 30k tickets and not sell them to PSU like our fans.

they have better players at every position minus the punter. They have more money for assistant coaches. The second string on that team had more stars coming out of high school. They pack. a 100 thousand seat stadium every week and pay a ton more for season tickets than we do that’s significant because the fans make them more money then our fans make Rutgers. The one. I wants to talk about and. Just disregard like it doesn’t matter is that they have a very healthy NIL that the fans support to keep it that way. We complain and rather avoid talking about it and god forbid we actually contribute to the NIL. The games there are electric and the tailgate dwarfs ours. Go next year and see for yourself.

We played in the Gator Bowl last year. That was the most prestigious bowl game in our football history.

I have no expectations for a win today. We’re not playing Northwestern. Statistically, it will be one of our toughest challenges this year. I’m hoping to see some continued progress by the offense and hopefully we can keep it close at halftime.

then how would it be the nadir of Schiano? We haven’t made any progress from a decade ago in 2012 because Ash sent the program down a toilet and we’ve had to build up from there.
Ash hasn’t been here in years, does
Kansas and Illinois say the same about their previous coach. If we had won 9 games this year who would get the credit. If we don’t win 6 who will get the blame. It’s the same person win or lose, no excuses

Can only assume that the Penn State recruiting operation is one of the reasons the game is a so-called sell-out. They will no doubt host a number of NJ recruits and their families who will be invited into the winning locker room. BTW, Matt Millen is on the broadcast team of today’s Indiana at Michigan State game. One plus for us!

If only they could beat Ohio State and Michigan they’d really be killing it.

That’s classic Schiano. In his best season ever we were still 3rd in the Big East. With a losing record we go to our best bowl game ever. Ups and downs of this program. Would just love to have a win today. Something like the Syracuse wind game where a win wasn’t likely.

I read somewhere that Franklin is 4-0 against RU in our stadium. That's more B1G wins than we have at home in that time. Interesting stat, in my opinion. @Plum Street Thoughts?

Getting hammered next week at Maryland after a bad loss today will approach the nadir of our sufferings as RU FB fans.

It would hammer home that in the better part of a decade we have made no progress.

Our best game against PSU was our first one. Crazy to think.
In fairness, that was also at a time when PSU still was under scholorship sanctions so they've had the ability to make progress from that team significantly faster than us, simply by having more scholorships than they did.

I agree though, it would be nice to play them close one of these years

Jerry,

we played in the Gater bowl ONLY because the originally scheduled team got covid... We didn't earn that birth. Beyond that we got blown out... not really something to brag about

He can’t get blown out on his own field. Momentum comes to a grinding halt.

Based on the criteria set by the NCAA, the football team did earn it.

Wasn't the 2014 game the day after PSU's sanctions were lifted?
that week I believe. I remember going to that game and the nitters being all excited that they could go bowling again. 5 f*cking gary Nova int's later.... that game sucked

Yes but Gary made up for it against Michigan and Maryland that season

Yes it is. Harbaugh is also 4-0 . Franklin is trying to become 5-0 . Can’t think of many other coaches that did that to us in piscataway
If you wanna add salt to the wound, games used to be played at old Giants stadium and Paterno was 6-0 vs us in East Rutherford

That is an interesting stat too . But some differences there . Although that venue was “home” for us it really wasn’t “home”. There is something to be said for an on campus stadium . Paterno was there forever. Franklin has only been at Penn state since 2014 when we joined the league.

Stop with Ash …he is long gone.
Next year will be Year 4 of Schiano 2.0 …..if we are still having same discussions a year from now this Program has big problems.

I was at the game circa 94. All you had to see was the multitude of busses with Pa. plates to know whose home game it was. Also a shorter drive from Philly.
