Too many players contributing nothing

To have a realistic chance of winning any league game Sanders,Johnson and Williams must score at least 40 points. In the Indiana game a grand total of 22 points with Johnson failing to score. These stats speak for themselves along with the abysmal foul shooting and excessive unforced turnovers."Can't win if you can't score" will be the lasting slogan of the season.

I have been stating what you suggested in your last paragraph for some time: we need to get rid of many of these kids who will NOT develop into B1G players. They just don't have it and I think they would do really well in mid-major leagues but not in the B1G.

I also think for the remaining of this year, because we are such a bad shooting team, but rotate so many players in and out, Pikiell should think of pressing more and changing up the defensive looks from man to man to various zones. What we do well is rebound and play hard nosed defense. Off of a press we can cause TO's and get cheap points and if they break our press, it will give them less time to set up their half court offense.

Personally, we need to cut bait with several of these players. I would like to see Pikiell bring in some more JUCO players who can shoot ala Jerome Coleman and as you stated, if we want Sa, Thiam and Omoruyi to develop, they should get even more playing time for next year.
Two minor details regarding this statement: "we need to get rid of many of these kids who will NOT develop into B1G player".

1. This isn't like the pro's where you can cut somebody and pick up another player. Who do you replace the players with when you get rid of players?

2. Little Big 10 rule of guaranteeing 4 year scholarships.

We are re-defining patient. Did the University of Chicago decide for themselves, or did the Big Ten tell them they were done? History could be repeating itself ...

Good question...I wonder what Delany thinks about his decision privately. Before anything drastic happened they would have to at least give us 5 years of the full share to see what we do...

His new $40M+ TV deal is about to kick in in a few months. I think it's safe to assume what he's thinking. Cmon man.

As to your number one, I realize this. But certain kids will leave when they learn they're not going to get minutes and would have a better chance playing immediately at another school. This happens all of the time.

As to number 1, your number 2 doesn't guarantee that given a scholarship means the kid is guaranteed playing time so again, kids are replaced when they realize they're going to get buried on the bench, or are given reduced minutes. This isn't reneging on a scholarship for these kids. This is a way of the kids seeing the writing on the wall that they would be better off playing elsewhere. It happens everywhere and it will happen here as well. Expect several transfers at the end of the season.

I was responding to your statement "we need to get rid of many". My comments had nothing to do with whether players would leave on their own accord.

We just gave a scholarship to a kid who had to redshirt because he is too out of shape. We have spots for good players. The problem is that we can't get good players.

It's great to be recruiting NJ once again. Bullock is our first NJ recruit since Myles Mack. The last guy that Coach P recruited from Roselle C did pretty good for himself.
