4 for 19 shooting and six turnovers in first quarter
down 20-10

43-34 at half...not surprised by the slow start at all, that's how they always come out against top opponents, digging a hole for themselves, the good news is after being down by like 15, its only 9 at half but giving up 43 points at halftime doesn't cut it especialy when you aren't a prolific offense

We're down nine. We made up an eighteen point differential and we brought it down to single digits by the end of the first half. That's a good sign. We actually won the second quarter 24-23. Let's keep it going into the 3rd quarter and get the score down to two possessions, which will give us a chance.

Shot a better 8 for 14 in second Q with 4 turnovers
but Ohio State has 43 points at the half.
We are not holding them under their average, as we so often do to teams.
Canty sat a lot (fouls)
Stringer tried various lineups including two centers at one time,
and a small lineup with 3 guards plus Copper (gets us killed on the boards)
Ohio State is the real deal as their 3 losses are to 3 top teams

This is not what I was hoping we would do coming out of halftime. We have been outplayed and out shot. And now we're down by 16--ugh. Come on ladies turn this around.

And just like that after creeping back, we're down by 17.

65-48...its evident that this team is not a Big 10 title contender nor a top 4 Big 10 team, that's disappointing to me given the tandem of Cooper and Scaife..some will lash out at me for being negative but its my opinion..some fans just want to make the NCAA tourney, others think a sweet 16 is what they should be aiming for, we have a nice team but not a great team....the team is probably one of the last few at larges to get in seeded as 8/9 with UConn again or a 10 playing on a 7s home court

Now, we're down by 20 with 15 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter. Blech. I was hoping for a better showing, but it appears that we may be one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the B1G but that's about it. Now, with that said, we should still make the tourney, but as a lower seed.

its not a blooper game. Ohio State is ranked #5. They simply are better coached and are a better team. Like Maryland, Michigan State, and probably Iowa but maybe Northwestern, they make up the top 4-5 in this league.
Actually i always considered the BE BETTER in WBB than almost anyone including the B1G and expected to be a top 4 team in a weak yr....outside FB WBB was always a passion since Sticks and Wicks and to say i'm disappointed in being non competitive is putting it lightly but i refuse to go negative yet.

Look, it's clear: Ohio State right now looks and plays like a top 5 team. They're more talented than us and their head coach is terrific. I too was hoping once we joined the B1G we would be one of if not the best team in the conference. I still believe we can and will be, but not this season.

This is a great run so far. Let's keep it up ladies.

Copper and Scaife can't do it alone. Canty had three points. I thought she would be good for at least 8-10 a game. Hernandez? Where was she? How many shots did she have? Hollivay was solid but we need more scoring from her.

The biggest difference for Ohio State is they have three legit scorers and we have two. If Canty and Hollivay and even Butts can account for more scroing than what they're doing now (I don't expect much more from our true freshmen) than I think we can be competitive with anybody in conference.

We lost by 12, not bad against a top 5 team. Can't get down 15-20 and expect to pull off an upset. Did anyone see the game and how we played? Scaife had 27?

Hung in there against #5 in the country on the road. Showed a lot of tenacity coming back multiple times against big deficits. Kelsey Mitchell is unbelievable. Disappointed but still optimistic.
Still missing too many bunnies and they win the game at the ft line

No one came to play except Tyler. What in the world is wrong with Copper? Was she too hyped. on just having a bad bad bad game. Fumbles, turnovers. no shot. no drives. Sometimes, I think she needs to take a run around the track prior to each game. This may be one of her worst games on the bank. Hope she isn't ailing

The WCTC radio announcer kept mentioning all the missed layups and its importance in trying to defeat Ohio State.Based on the couple of games I have watched or heard this season Rutgers has two terrific players,ie,Copper and Scaiffe.Last year they had three terrific players Laney,Copper and Scaife.Next year they will only have Scaife which should set off a alarm bell to all Rutgers fans regarding the downward trend in recruiting.

I watched the game on BTN+. First half we had too many turnovers and Kahleah was way off. Mitchell for OSU was unbelievable. Shot poorly. Came out in the 3rd strong but fell behind big. Kept chipping away in the fourth but game was never really in doubt. Ohio State is very deep and Mitchell kept scoring and making free throws. They won at the line making 12 more free throws than we did.

Pleased that they kept fighting back.

and this is whats so disappointing. We dont get enough scoring from our center spot and we dont get enough from another guard. Thats the two things holding success back right now. Speaks to recruiting because in past times CVS would have this covered

A loss is a loss, but... we were down 10 after a chaotic first quarter, then played OSU almost even (-2) for the final 3 quarters. This team never gives up. Copper had an off game but somehow still scored 19 points. I think that our team can learn a lot from watching the tape of this game. They'll have a chance at redemption in 2 weeks at the RAC.

that game at the RAC is a game they need to get. Have to find a way to beat one of the top teams and reward the home faithfully. RU used to be money for home wins against ranked opponents not named UConn, got to try and get back to that

Because we don't have that reliable scorer from the center spot, we need more from Canty and can Hernandez be that off on her D that Stringer won't use her more in offensive sets? If she is the only decent pure shooter on the team next to Scaife and maybe Copper, then Stringer should think about using her more. If she is that much of a liability on the defensive side, maybe mix in a little zone to give her more playing time on the O. The bottom line is we need a third scorer to get us over the hump. I thought Hollivay, with her skill set, should be averaging close to 15 a game, but that's not going to happen.

Do you mean Canty? Copper had a double double again - 19 points and 11 rebounds. What are you expecting from her,40 and 20?

Kahleah had a poor first half. She turned the ball over a number of times and missed a bunch of easy shots. Both she and Tyler had excellent 2nd halves

In spite of those numbers, Copper really did have an off game. She shot 7/17 and had 5 turnovers. She was making poor decisions, including forcing shots. The announcers for OSU mentioned that her athleticism was working against her.

I just read what 67 wrote above. Yes, she played better in the 2nd half, but IMHO Copper's rough first half helped dig that 10 point hole that we couldn't climb out of. (p.s. I love Kahleah, but this just wasn't her best.)

Lost to a good team and didn't get blown out.
Those expecting a loss were right.
I hoped for upset and it didn't happen.
78 points against OSU isn't bad, but giving up 90 is not good!

Glad to see more posting on the game thread that game threads had before.
that's something I like to see.
Hopefully every game thread will be having m,ore traffic than some of the past ones had.

thats been our achilles heel....the post...but i'll buy this road loss as semi acceptable...for now...we need to get more talent though..

I think some of the minutes Hernandez could get have
been going to the youngsters. This may be a long term positive.
We have a much longer bench this year. Viv is still tinkering with combinations

Even when we had Kia and TSB, RU unfortunately never got "great" scoring from the center spot (though they both had their moments.

Rachel should be doing better, and CVS wants her to. Rachel was off versus Wisconsin, but she's been better in 3/4 (including today--where she missed too many but had 8 points and 10 boards).

I agree Canty is the best person to be a 3rd guard scorer, but it doesn't need to be her each night as long as she is running the offense and keeping TOs town. It can be Shrita. It can be Sanders. It can even be Cynthia. But it needs to be someone each night.

But I think the biggest problems tonight were turnovers and defense. An RU team that scores 78 points should be able to beat almost anybody.

Shrita Parker got hurt during the first half and did not return. Any word on how she is?

She also got called for a blocking foul on that play, and I thought she had position. Unfortunately, BTN Plus shows very few replays so I didn't get a second look at it.

gave up a season high in points and tied our season high in scoring, guess that's good for something.
