"You're not playing [Rutgers] every week," Jarmond said while speaking at a Sports Business Journal conference in Las Vegas last week.

If this was a reference about the time and high cost of traveling across the country (especially for non-revenue sports), then why did he mention Rutgers?

Why not just say the high cost of traveling across country to the east coast conference teams.

He also said the benefits far outweigh the challenges in the same comment regarding Rutgers. Use a positive spin and he could have been saying good thing we don't play Rutgers every week for the challenge to not lose.

I agree with above. He was talking about travel and nothing positive or negative about Rutgers.

He could have said Penn State (near no major airport), but he chose Rutgers.

How about the actual context for three quote?
Normally I would assign this to simple ignorance and lack of reading comprehension but as a Rutgers alum, that doesn't look good for the rest of us.
So it must be deliberate trolling?

Those enhancements include providing about $6.3 million to academic support, nutritional support and mental health services for all student-athletes. Roughly $4.3 million will be for food, requiring breakfast and lunch on campus for all UCLA athletes, professional dietitian services and nutritious meals while they are traveling.

Without even reading the article, I can tell the quote is about travel because of the context of the move to the B10.

Perhaps it is because NJ is the farthest B10 state from CA

Definitely has to do with travel.

While distance as the crow flies is further to NJ, in terms of travel time it'll likely take longer to get to State College.
