UConn vs Iowa

I'll say I haven't seen Iowa this year, I don't watch a lot of women's basketball... but their performance is the first half tonight reminded me of our men's team. Missed layups, careless with the ball in the first half, and poor outside shooting. They look more relaxed this half, and I expect they will run away with it this quarter.

That was horrific call. She didn't move, didn't extend elbows, defender initiated the contact.

Somebody called it in, had to have Clark in finals

Just awful

And announcers not saying shit about it even more embarrassing

Announcers are part of the entertainment product. They almost never call out refs, and absolutely never on a controversial game-clinching call.

At least it was a decent game, unlike the 1st one. Hopefully Dawn, and team wipe the floor with Bluder, and her bunch.

That call was bad!... but what proved to be too much to overcome, was the earlier one-sided ticky-tac fouls that handcuffed Muhl and Edwards in the 2nd quarter and the most blatantly one-sided fouls called in the third when UConn started to stretch the lead and take control. Some really questionable calls on UConn that allowed Iowa to go on the 10-2 run to get back in the game. That's where the game turned..... because of the refs. interjecting themselves into it.

After Iowa was extended that lifeline, the refs finally started to call a few fouls on Iowa players to make the lopsided foul numbers not make it so obvious

Ironic, ..... UConn finally gets a taste of what CVS aggressive defensive teams had to go through on a regular basis, with refs negating our strengths.

Sure hope SC can face one opponent on Sunday .... Iowa...... and not have to overcome the refs also.

This is what needs to stop!!

With all the momentum and eyes now fixated on the women's game, poorly officiated games run the risk of costing WBB everything that has for so long been fought for. Women's BB already seems to have more than it's share of haters who would love to latch on to anything they can find in an effort to de-legitimize or disrespect it.

This playing favorites thing ruins it for the true fans of the game. One that really sticks out to me was Jeff Walz and Louisville being allowed to mug B Griner so that media story of the time, Shoni Shimmel could advance to the final against UConn. Louisville got their doors blown off in the final because they shouldnt have even been there that year. It pretty much gifted UConn a Nat Chp when Baylor was gonna whip them that year.

Last year's Iowa/SCar semi was another case of ref interference, IMO. Bad calls cost SCar a Nat Chip last year. No one could stop A.Boston and the inside game of Staley's team but the refs. Once that strength was neutralized by questionable fouls, SCar's perimeter shooting was put on front street.

BTW,....... I thought A. Boston did a masterful job of analyzing the game and interviewing her coach. That was special, and fun to watch.

I thought the call was legit. Edwards is clearly moving into Marhall and throws her elbow into her. Watch Edward''s feet for the movement. She extends her left leg into Marshall.

The idea that you shouldn't referee the game at the end is ridiculous. If it's a foul in the first ten minutes, it's a foul in the last ten seconds. Otherwise, where do you draw the line?

A tough loss for UCONN for sure, and a poor game by both teams compared to what they have done so far in the tourney. I expect SC will win going away, but would like to see Iowa win.

Just watch replay, you are correct

This is the crux of the issue.

For once, I'm supporting Geno's, regarding his response when asked about the call. He said, a call like that could be made every trip down the court on both teams. Seems it was only called on his team. I had to laugh at his sarcasm. It was pretty much, spot on.

I also saw a clip circulating online showing Stuelke setting a pick in the same manner as Edwards with no call made. That is the problem here. It wasn't called for most of the game, so don't decide to call it in the last 10 seconds of the game.

100% correct and she also extended her shoulder out and you are right that needs to be called the whole game consistently; but as a whole unfortunately women's refs are just terrible because they are 1 tier down from men's referees who are not great either

I find it funny reading some of the comments of people who, on second look, say...... Yup! It's a foul. ...... It's your textbook offensive foul... etc....etc

These people are acting like they haven't watched basketball and how it has been officiated for as long as I can remember, in regard to final seconds of a close game.......at any level. To pick a random game and go away from that is ......problematic.

It wasn't just a moving screen, it was an obvious moving screen. More like a body check. Sucks that she decided to do that with 6 seconds left

If you slow it frame by frame yes looks like a foul. Point is if you slow 15 other picks down from same game frame by frame they look same and no call. Also you have bad taste with some real soft calls on uconn key players (their quick guard got hosed cple times with BS calls). So you now you have a game decided by refs, tarnishing what's prob the most watched women's game in history when they finally got on a national platform with millions of eyes.
I hope they get wiped out in final and it's not 7 vs 5.

Also just have to watch Clark for two games to see how badly she wants to go left outside of 3 point circle as she likes pull off left hand dribble and when she puts ball down to right she's going to drive all the way in, their is no pull up, midrange, runner etc.

In real time it looks just as blatant

Refereeing is an art. Games should not be decided on a call like this, whether technically correct or not, if the same kinds of contact happens on both ends all game long without any whistle.

The call was absolutely correct. Poor Geno sulking after the game was priceless. He’s so used to getting all the calls.
Geno=whiner...always has been. His players responded to questions better/classier about the foul call post game than their coach did. Geno should have coached better with the lead. Hey..he's a HOF coach...just ask him, he'll tell you, Lol. Go RU!

Call me kooky but I am actually rooting for Connecticut
I would say the same, but Iowa and Clark are too hard to root against.
Geno is proving UConn can never be counted out as long as he's there.
Despite the loss, this game proves that

That was the 1st woman's game I have watched in many years. I'd love to see the PPP (points per possession) when Clark takes a 3 5 feet from beyond the line. I know she can make them, but with the offensive skill Iowa has and the decisions she can make with the ball in her hands I have to think they are bad shots.

Perhaps the stats show they are "bad," but she makes enough of them that they are "good." The stats won't show that those shots energize the team and the crowd when made. The stats won't show that her ability to make them spreads the defense and opens up passing lanes. The stats won't show that they are an intangible part of her game.
