Dumb indeed. More experienced officers may commit that type of crime from time to time - I certainly knew of one who did years back (like 38 years ago - yikes I'm old). But just not necessary.

Just to clarify what I was saying - because I'm not sure computers were much of a thing at the time - I was referring to using police information resources for personal reasons. In the early 80's I had a job where the local police drove us to the bank for nightly deposits. One of the officers kept a steady stream of TMI going as he drove, including that he used the police system to track down his ex-wife's boyfriend.
