VERY Positive Pat Hobbs Article

Maybe so, but I can’t forget the first time I saw Hobbs up close and personal. It was at the Rutgers-Washington game in Seattle, Ash’s first game. There was a pre-game breakfast for alumni and a few hundred RU faithful were in attendance. Hobbs was introduced and gave a pep talk to the already enthusiastic crowd. He said he had just come from the locker room and said he had never seen a team more ready and we’ll prepared , biting at the bit to take the field. The crowd got even more amped. The rest is history. A totally unprepared Rutgers team took the field and was pretty much toyed with by the far superior Huskies. At halftime a fellow alum ,who had traveled all the way from Florida, and I could only laugh ( cry) at the what we were witnessing. We both had the same thought about Hobbs- another bullsh*t artist.

Well, time has proved otherwise and despite a few more hiccups ( Stringer) he has done fine job with building/rebuilding the entirety of the men’s and women’s sports programs and upgrading the facilities. Extending his contract was a good thing.

Stringer was a no win situation. I give him a pass on that entirely.
I cant think of a situation where "his hands were tied" fits better than with Stringer. And he was only here a week or two when he hired Ash. I dont think coaches were knocking the door down for that job, and Ash came from an elite program. Hobbs has redeemed himself since then

Pat walked into a shitstorm. They didn't even tell him in the interview about the pending NCAA trouble.

Stringer was using the sign of the times, among other things, to her advantage. Pat had no recourse.

Did Hobbs have any kind of background in big-time college football and connections within big-time college football? Chances of him making a home run hire were probably very slim.

This could be considered a left-handed compliment.
Definitely best as far as sports other than football go. Mulcahy did wonders for football and in turn the Big Ten invite never comes if we were still Terry Shea bad

I flew in from the east coast to be there in Seattle as well and attended the pre-game event but took Hobbs' remarks with a grain of salt. He has to be a cheerleader in that spot, even if he could have been more measured in what he said. The evening before with a smaller group gathered at UW's baseball facility, he was similarly upbeat and positive about the team's prospects the next day but you could kind of tell Hobbs hadn't previously been responsible for an athletics department that included a P5 football program.

Ultimately, it was Ash who proved to be the BS artist and in way over his head.
