I have become a pretty big fan in the last year. I actually looked back at their record the last 10 years and we are horrifically bad. I don't think we won a B1G game for like 3 seasons. Then we had a couple seasons with 1-2 match wins. This year is zero and frankly we stink. We lost to teams with a much smaller budget than us (like Binghamton or some school like that). The team constantly has service errors and just gives away points. I know they're young but year 5 is a bad year to tank. They need to financially help that program though. They practice at the College Ave gym I think (which is a joke to me). Curious where they lift.Rutgers has lost all 10 of its Big Ten matches. We've been shut out 3-0 in seven of those matches, lost 3-1 in one, and lost 3-2 in two others.
So, on the season in Big Ten play, Rutgers has lost 30 out of 35 sets, including 24 of 25 in the last eight matches. Our overall record is 5-16.
Granted that Big Ten volleyball is incredibly difficult -- much like wrestling -- but this is the 5th year under the current coach and there has been zero measurable progress. This is disappointing, as a good volleyball team would be an event at the RAC.
Small detail but they primarily practice out of Livi gym these days, not College Ave. Believe there’ll be a few matches in the barn during fall/winter crossover season but otherwise everything is on Livingston. Wouldn’t say they’re underfunded by any means. They actually have the highest operating expenses per participant out of the non-revenue programs.I have become a pretty big fan in the last year. Most matches we get 800ish at the RAC. Sometimes 1000.
Ehh not sure how much that matters. Get me a list of what their operating expenses and revenue and donations are vs the rest of WVB in the B1G please. Would be shocked if we're not 15, 16 17 or 18th.Small detail but they primarily practice out of Livi gym these days, not College Ave. Believe there’ll be a few matches in the barn during fall/winter crossover season but otherwise everything is on Livingston. She took a setter from Ole Miss Aly, she's not bad. Apparently she had a stud freshman coming in for this season and then Pitt swooped in with NIL and stole her.Is the coach effectively using the portal? Speaking of the portal, Kinkela is listed as a redshirt junior. Thanks for any input. $$$$

Went to the match Friday. A couple of glimpses of success but they lost in 4 sets.
It's a disgrace if they practice at what is essentially a rec center for the students. Thats partly a reason why they stink. School doesn't take the sport seriously.
I would like to see them with comparable facilities to our other teams we are competing against. That's not a big ask. Also why we started building facilities for the Olympic sports under Pat, to play catch up with how far behind the other schools we are.12th-highest gameday operating expenses.
Regardless, where would you like to see them practice? Should we build a volleyball facility? Where would the funds come from? Would you be willing to see funds diverted from football and basketball for this? Outside of significant private funding, that's never happening. It's not like they're sharing the court with random students during practices or anything.
Numbers are all pulled from EADA filings. Purdue has their own dedicated volleyball arena, Indiana shares one with wrestling, and Michigan State plays in Breslin (though they used to play in their smaller field house). MSU is in the early stages of building a new arena for volleyball, gymnastics, and wrestling, though.I would like to see them with comparable facilities to our other teams we are competing against. Where are you getting the info? I'd love to look at it.
If my kid is considering Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State are their girls also practicing in a rec sports facility? I would be stunned if the answer is yes and that's me wanting to compare us to some of the worst teams in the conference. What about Oregon, USC, Wisconsin? Forget it.
Half that league has top 25 teams. We need to be on the same playing field.
My solution is folding at least 4 sports to focus resources on catching up the other sports that are so far behind and having R Fund do their job and actually expand our donor base.Numbers are all pulled from EADA filings. Wrestling's never leaving the RAC so that's a non-starter here, not to mention the logistics of funding/building. I don't disagree that a level playing field would be nice, but these programs have decades-long headstarts. If you have a feasible solution, I'm all ears, but it's money better allocated elsewhere.

I don't know what a EADA filling is but you did one on WVB to have that data?
We could also focus on a training complex for the other Olympic sports that don't have a real one. The Livi rec center for a P2 Olympic program is an absolute disgrace and I will bring it up with the new AD and light a fire under his/her ass to do something about it.
It's not just the op ex from those sports. They're no longer also on the list needing to be brought up to the same level as other P2 programs. It's a joke to continue to have sports programs that are treated like a AAC or Conference USA level program but they're competing against SEC and B1G schools. It allows you to focus time and resources on 4 less sports. If no one actually cares about certain sports and we continue to just get our asses handed to us...why still do it. Makes no sense to me. Focus the time, effort and donors towards the remaining sports that are worth investing in and need the help.EADA = Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act
Obviously we aren’t going to agree but I think you really overestimate the funds that would open up if you cut four non-revenue programs. Also, that’s not an action an athletic department takes to save costs—it’s one to delay the inevitable, and we’re nowhere near that point.
NIL in volleyball has become a huge player. Texas VB team has a bigger payroll than their men’s hoops team does. The 2 highest payed athletes with NIL in Nebraska are on the VB team, not the fb team. She took a setter from Ole Miss Aly, she's not bad. I watched Batenhorst at USC play against us. She is okay, nothing special. She must have gotten some pay day because she downgraded teams, doesn't fit in at all with their make up...I just don't get it.NIL in volleyball has become a huge player. Volleyball is taking advantage of its increased interest on a national stage. There’s more TV time and revenue coming in from VB than ever before. It’s a great game to watch especially in person. TV doesn’t do the speed of the game justice or show how good of athletes these ladies are.
Schools are spending money on VB facilities and playing games in larger venues. I believe RU had 6800 people attend the match against Nebraska last season.
There were also some “issues” between the Big 10 and the smaller gym you were playing some games in so I think you can expect your ladies to play their home games at the RAC at least 95% of the time.
She had graduated and USC has a great program she is doing for her masters. They are also the best beach volleyball school in the country and she is better at it than indoor. She went there mainly for school and beach VB. She’s a great kid.I watched Batenhorst at USC play against us. She is okay, nothing special.
