I'm trying to remember if Pikes & Slick Rick treated it like a real game vs. doing a lot of tinkering, situational stuff, weird mass-subbing, etc. I feel like both teams treated it like a "REAL" game if memory serves correctly. But yeah, just trying to have clear expectations for next month's game with them... wondering if everything about it will feel real or if there will be aspects that make you remember that it's a glorified officiated scrimmage that doesn't count for anything record-wise.

Were you at the game last year @Richie O ? I think you were if I recall correctly because you were gonna try to live-stream since it wasn't broadcasted.

I was at the game.

Pikiell did try different line-ups, but both coaches essentially played the game as a regular game for the most part, and played to win.

Jamichael Davis was RU's best player on the floor, FYI. I think Griffiths did well also. Omoruyi might have done well also.

If my memory serves some of the issues of the season were there for us to see - though I'll also admit I did not see them. For example, St. Johns was strong rebounding (especially their center) ... though I believe Omoruyi did well also. RU's FT shooting was poor. Hyatt was inconsistent.

I remember just being excited, as I always am going into a new season, excited to see the team after a long off-season. I was particularly excited about Griffiths and Davis - and Davis seemed like a revelation.

I will say that Davis did not produce offensively during the season as he showed in the exhibition - at times he did show flashes, but no more than that offensively. Still ... his ridiculous quickness and terrific defense still plays well - and I still am hopeful for continued development from Davis. Just because Simpson did not develop last season as a sophomore, does not mean Davis cannot.

Here's the box score, you can tell from the minute distribution it was taken pretty seriously. Other than maybe the 11 minutes for Chol.
Thanks!

Confirms my dim recollection of thoughts - and some of the signs - and some of the misses:

1) Omoruyi did play well - but Soriano, the opposing center, outplayed him ... a familiar refrain that happened all season. And, Omo not getting the double-double, means a loss (RU was 9-0 in games in which Omoruyi was double-double).

2) Griffiths played well - had he averaged double digit points all season, RU would have been better ... but he was also 5-15 only and 2-7 from 2.

3) Davis played well (the best RU player on the court that day) - but did not SCORE as efficiently when the real season started.

4) Simpson actually played well - a good floor game and acceptable shooting efficiency. But ... not sustained in the real season.

5) Hyatt inconsistent and ... meh ... A microcosm of both last season and his career.

6) RU killed on the boards - a recurring theme throughout much of the season, including too many offensive rebounds given up.

7) Poor 3-point shooting (4-20). Definitely a theme last season.

The biggest thing holding JMike back is his free throw shooting. Improving at that should be his top priority from a development standpoint.

I was there. In the first few minutes we turned the ball over several times against the St. John's defense. They picked us up full court and we had a difficult time inbounding the ball. I remember at least once we didn't even get it inbounded in 5 seconds. We did better as the game went on but we were outrebounded by a large number I think. We had the lead by 3 in overtime with only seconds remaining when SJ inbounded and missed a shot and I think it was 2 misses and both times we didn't get the rebound and a guard hit a three to send the game into another overtime at the buzzer and we lost. We should never given them a three point attempt in those last seconds. They should never have gotten three shots in those last seconds. It was a competitive game and Davis really was outstanding. I think he was our best player on the floor that day. I think he was like 6 for 10 or so on foul shots.

I was at the game. Went with Knights 1212.

Several other posters were there including BK; Groz ; RU 72 and I’m sure many others.

At the outset of the game, Pitino pressed us and we were not ready for it.

If I recall, we were down big at the end of the 1st half ( 20 points ?)

We played a terrific 2nd half and forced double ot before losing.

Game was intense albeit it was an exhibition and the crowd was raucous

Some other things I recall :

- Joel Soriano and Cliff were really going after each other

- JaMichael Davis getting into the face of several St John’s players.

- It appeared Gavin had the green light to shoot.

Real happy I ventured out to Queens for the game.
