It fairly obvious that Rettig has more upside than Laviano... But of course we just had to waste one of the three years we have with him. I don't think Rettig would have made a difference this season. We have a lot of holes, none of which this coaching staff has a clue how to fix. That being said, a QB with a rocket arm and experience covers up those holes. Unfortunately, even if we go with Rettig next year, he'll be behind and make mistakes that inexperienced QBs tend to make. The point, is I strongly believe we would have seen a lot of growth out of a guy like Rettig this year. He might not have been stellar, but by his junior and senior season he would be much improved.

Don't think we will have three years of Rettig. He probably had the transfer papers ready after the PSU game.

Let's face it, Rettig wasn't entrusted enough to play one snap after Laviano lost his helmet during the PSU game. Instead the coaches decided to burn a time out.

Really? 3-7 and grossly overthrown short passes make it "fairly obvious"?

"A QB with a rocket arm . . . " What about Cardale Jones? You should have heard what Ray Lucas had to say last night.

The facts is, nobody knows if Rettig would have improved or not It's just wishful thinking and pissing and moaning.

With Joey Bosa in the game, no QB was going to look great last night. And Laviano did not look bad in the 1st Half. Made some good throws and smart decisions.

I'd love to see what a QB with a big arm could do to open up the field. It's somewhat unbelievable how rarely we throw the ball down field.

Knight Shift, you're obviously a good fan, but you gotta play both sides of the argument.

Rettig hadn't gotten any reps... comes in... and throws two of the best passes we've seen all year. Sure, it was against backups. Sure, he threw some bad balls.

But, the upside is 100% there in those two throws which Laviano can't make unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, Laviano's a very good QB... but Rettig could be a superstar. And more importantly, as a fanbase, it is very concerning to have a coach that can't see that.
